Here are my non-topstrap colt clones, first on top is my Uberti 1851 .38 special conversion, middle is a Cimmaron 1860 Army in .44 cap and ball, bottom is a Pietta 1851 Navy in .44 cap and ball.

Here's a Ruger SBH in .44 Magnum

I guess I don't need to post a pic of mine because it is a clone of yours dmazur I love that gun except the time I loaded some hot 300 gr cast performance loads :what: I almost lost my grip on the sbh everytime I touched one off. :D

That's a nice Single Six you got there gc70. I really like the lines of the fixed sights version.:)

Here's my latest, a .45 cal. Vaquero:

I had a New Vaquero on lay-a-way and was in to pick it up when I saw this one in the showcase. I even got money back with it; I love it when a plan comes together:rolleyes::D

RJM and denwego,
How well do those 38 Spl. conversions shoot? Any load restrictions?
Regards,
Greg

The manual for my conversion says "the firing of +p ammunition is not recommended beyond occasional use, and could void the warranty on components of the barrel, cylinder, and frame." The metal around the chamber looks as thick as a .38+P spec revolver my wife has, but the open top makes me think that it would be a bad idea. Anything in factory loads of .38Spl and lower (cowboy loads, etc) run just fine in it. Incidentally, the lubricated bullets with many cowboy loads really make a good difference on maximizing the life of a barrel!

Edit - If it's a true conversion from a black powder, I wouldn't use anything more than cowboy to be on the safe side! Gotta make sure!

I actually shot some +p stuff through mine with no ill effects, about thirty rounds. I am not using it as a defensive gun so for range shooting I just put regular .38 special stuff through it. These colts will take a decent deal of abuse, the cylinder "spindle rod thingy" is pretty substantial.

Surprisingly accurate for a gun sportin' terrible sights, actually my front sight (brass thingy) flew off a couple of range sessions ago and I lost it. The last couple of times I shot I just aimed down the barrel and it seemed to work fine. I like it.

Couldn't let this great thread fade:D

Nice collection salvo! That Bisley Vaquero is a nice rig; who did the front sight work?

Gordon, that is some very nice stag on your Bisley:)

SGW42, nice "long Tom" Single Six; I have a JC Higgins badged High Standard Longhorn with a 9" barrel that is a great plinker.

This is my dad's SAA in .41 Colt. It dates from around the turn of the century. He's never fired it, but it would probably work if ammo was available.
