Let's See those Taurus Revolvers

As my Raging Bull 454 came from the factory, the grip just pounded the web of my hand. I took material off so that the bulk of the recoil went into the palm of my hand, making the grip a lot more secure and much less painful. Here is a before and after of the reshaping.

While this Raging Bull is pretty finicky as to loads, when I find a good one, it shoots quite well and is very controllable with the porting.

A couple of ‘90’s Tauri. An 85CH and a 65. I may be an uncouth lout, but I have trouble finding much difference between these and their Smith counterparts. That 85CH has a better trigger than my 442.

Those are two Taurus revolver series that I have had lots of good luck with, the 85 series and the 65/66 series. Owned eight or so total with zero problems.

My Taurus 327. Only Taurus I own and it handles the whole .32 caliber family like a champ. Added an Ameriglo sight so I can see where I am aiming at night while camping, and upgraded the grips to my favorite style from Premium Gun Grips. Chose it over the Ruger LCR 327 because the Taurus weighs 22 oz vs the LCR’s 17 oz which I felt would help when firing .327 Federal Magnum rounds from it. Now if only they would make a 3” barrel, 7 shot version.

Two Taurus model 94 22lr. The five inch barrel one is a great shooter, accurate and a wonderful trigger.

Sort of sneaked in an old but shiny INA 32 long made in Brazil. Below it is a blued Taurus in 32 long. Both have 3” barrels. To the right is a 32H&R magnum Ultra-Lite. Bottom right is a double action only in 327 federal magnum.

I would like to add a 85 NV to my collection. You just don’t see those things very often.

I bought my first years ago … somehow It went on a trade or something… but I missed it … so light & compact.. not a range gun …but I suggest using 148gr LWC target loads … practice at 7 yds to get used to it …
I carry as a bug or in place of a small 380

I still think 148gr LWC as a fairly good defensive round .. for what it is …

As compared with my 642

I don't own a Taurus, but am curious about a Judge [45 Colt-410/2.5] ?
Not sure how I would use it - perhaps a "truck gun"
Would anyone who owns one, Please comment ?
any guidance would be appreciated,
thanks in advance !

My first handgun, purchased in 1987 the day after I turned 21, is the blued Taurus 66 shown here. I even carried it a little bit on the job back then.

My other Taurus revolvers are the satin-stainless Model 94, purchased new in 2014, and my two rare three-inchers, both in polished-stainless. The 85 (.38 Special) was made in 1995 and I got it in around 2017. About a year later, I came across the 941 (.22WMR), which I believe was made around 1999 or 2000. The 85 is my favorite carry revolver, kind of a "poor man's SP101".

Incidentally, the 66 was stolen from me in a vehicle burglary in 1989 and recovered in 1991. It's got plenty of "street nicks" to show for its time on the lam.

First all .. use Federal 000 Buck for handguns
Its a close up and personal handgun
U will hear alot of this and that about it
But it is a good choice at close range, with that load

If u are planning on shooting 45 Colt out of it
I suggest getting a Charter Arms Bulldog in 44spl
Or a Charter Arms in 45acp

856 with Pachmayr Renegade grip & Gold Dots.

a taurus judge was the first firearm purchased by my then non-gunner cousin in rural connecticut. his house is kinda isolated down a semi-improved private lane. he works from home alone alot. over the past few years he was being visited noticeably more by sketchy guys allegedly selling, delivering or supposedly lost, as well as by feral/rabid animals. the only police presence is a scarce, lone, roving, state trooper contracted by his town.

i don’t know how he came to choose a judge, but he wanted a simple revolver and likes the judge’s choice of 410 to address dangers on 4 legs, 45lc for 2 legs. it’s been reliable and he is happy with it. i’ve shot it. while i wouldn’t buy one (nothing against the judge per se, i just have other tools for my situation), i can certainly see its worth in his situation, or as a truck gun. prices on gb.com can be attractive. the judge’s downside is higher ammo cost. the s&w governor is a much more expensive platform but offers the option of shooting cheaper 45acp with moonclips.

my only firearm for 25 years due to my locales was a surreptiously-kept taurus m85 38sp purchased slightly used in 1985 for $200. i have since acquired more firearms but my m85 happily remains one of my absolute forever pieces. i have a newer used m85 too but the older one seems just a bit better-made to me, ymmv. the grips on the newer models are secured with a pin, not screw, making grip changes a real p.i.t.a. my nongunner sister is very happy with her m85.

the only firearm that i have ever regretted selling was an older, nickle plated, 3” taurus (m65?) 357mag with a concealed hammer. i was going through a downsizing phase and (stupidly) decided that i didn’t like its concealed hammer. at least it went to another rural new england cousin who loves it.

imho, a sub-$300, non-ultralight, taurus m85 or m856 is just about the best starter centerfire handgun that a “normal” civilian non-gunner can buy. reliable, readily customizable with your choice of grips and ammo, intuitive manual of arms, simple to both clean and make-safe…
