Little crooked, shot with film and scanned print. Used tripod and camera timer.

I used that old machinery to my advantage a bit... I was hunting on a cattle ranch, that must have been farmed at some point in time, and the old machinery was about the only cover on the grazed portions of the land...
that place had a pretty good number of antelope on it, (saw over 75 on ranch, over 200 in general area), & harvested one.

I am a forester, and am used to acreage with lots of trees. the Great Plains were so much different that what i am used to, i really enjoyed that hunt.

Jim,

That is one big ole shaggy horny looking son of a gun!!

Nice moose too.

Jim,
I bet that moose became a job once you got him down...How does one go about dressing a moose that size alone? I'm guessing the river is the only way work to your advantage, if you floated him out piece by piece, and i can imagine a difficult task.

Did you have a boat or float plane to use in the task?

and that's the biggest moose i think i've ever seen.

:D:D You know I picked that print up at the photo shop and went directly to the barber. I was spending to much time with the Talkeetna woods hippies back then.:D

Float out, 30 river miles. I had a 11 foot Avon raft with a transom, no rowing frame just a paddle. Loaded all the meat in pieces as big as I could handle in the bottom of the raft right to the top of the tubes, tarped it then lashed all the gear on top. Barely any room for me I was sitting a foot above the tubes. Almost no freeboard and as maneuverable as a garbage scow.

No the river didn't help. In fact you notice he plopped his rump in the[cold] water. Pretty much disassemble it from the top side. Cut the head off and skin the top half. Remove front and rear quarters then cut them in half[no way I can carry a full quarter]. Split the breast bone with a axe, get the heart lungs out, make some meat cuts and grab the ribs. lift as hard as you can, the ribs will break at the spine. Flip over and repeat.

Doubt if I'll Ever do it alone again.

Kudos to all of you hunters out there. Congratulations and you should all be proud of your accomplishments in the field!!

Especially the young hunters who have posted photos! You guys are all awesome, keep up the good work.

Western Diamondbacks

From last weekend - got seven of them in one rockpile. Put one on the BBQ that night - slightly fishy flavor and rubbery as can be!

This is after the fact, hope it's OK. My wifes first deer shot last year, my Nephew's first deer shot 2 years ago, and my youngest son's first deer shot 3 years ago when he was 11. Mine is on the right shot in 2006, he's my first Buck. DSCN2483.jpg IMG_0724.jpg IMG_0671.jpg
