Savage Model 12FV .223 Rem
Barska SWAT 10-40x50mm
Stock has been filled to the max with #9 lead shot to weigh down the rear. This balances the whole rifle rest evenly just ahead of the trigger guard.
Overall weight is right at 18 pounds.
0.5" groups at 100 yards easily

my 2 favorites... front is a rem 700 vls in 308, leupold 8.5-25 lrt, harris bipod, 20 moa base, warne rings, and everything else i thought i could stuff into it- my 1000 yard gun. it shoots incredibly tight. somewhere on thr is a 500 yard group i posted it shot. i have killed prairie dogs w/ it beyond 850 yards.

the back one is my 9-twist ar-15 in 223, harris bipod attached to the float tube, cabela's alaskan guide 6.5-20x44, a.r.m.s. quick detach, warne rings. it is my close range gun - 500 and in, though i have taken prairie dogs w/ it beyond 500 (sometimes you can't help it - just have to take the shot). somewhere on thr is a pic of its grouping abilities at 100.

Dunno if I'd call it a rig...

But it definitely ain't no poodle-shooter popgun .223 Remington, that's for sure:

Rambosky, what is the make on that bolt rifle and what mods did you do to it or did it come like that?

It started out as a Rem 700P in .308. I ordered a McMillan A4 stock with molded in camo. I bought adjustable cheek piece (That's I'm going to install this week end). This is the same stock that McMillan sells to the Marines to use on their M40A3 sniper rifles.

I then sent it to G.A. Precision who trued the action, installed the SSG oversized bolt knob, installed a SS match Mike Rock 24", 5R, M24 profile barrel coated black, tuned the trigger to 2lbs, and had them pillar bed the action and the stock in Marine Tex.

It also sports Badger 20 deg scope base, Badger Max 50 rings and Badger/AICS DBM trigger guard. Uses the AICS 5 and 10 round mags.

I have a Nightforce NXS 4.5-15X50 Mil Dot scope on top.

Thanks for asking.

MinScout, I've got the same rig, minus the scope. Tell us what kind of accuracy you're getting with yours.

If I remember right, I only managed to get about 2 inch groups at 50 yards using Barnaul 123 gr ammo. I don't like to make excuses, but I should probably find a better rest than the tailgate of my truck. I'll do more experimenting this year.

My own popgun poodle-shooter...

This pre-ban Colt Competition HBAR is basically my fun gun, since I retired from the military I don't have to rely on one anymore. Great for punching holes in paper, and maybe the occasional prairie dogs. ;)

I do rely on this to get the job done, however. An Armscorp/H&R M14NM w/Krieger medium barrel; unitized gas system, ARMS #18 scope mount, USGI stock w/Devcon bedding:

Keeping things safe around the home, these are my go-to rifles.

Defense of my cinder block, bomb-shelter oceanside bungalow falls to a Remington 870 scattergun and a pair of AK variants.

Bulgarian SLR-95 w/K-Var US furniture, and the obligatory Buffertech recoil buffer:

Bedroom closet duty falls to a pretty little Romanian SAR-1, again, w/K-Var furniture, Buffertech recoil buffer, Tapco G-2 trigger group, and Romanian side-folder:

Here it's getting a magazine full of my 7.62x39 handloads run through, testing the new slant brake I installed:

Best I can do with an AK is 2" at 100 yards, so it's not a "precision" rifle.

Still plenty accurate to get the intended job done.

For long range work, nothin' says lovin' like a WWII Z-prefix 1903A4 Remington sniper, as restored to original condition from a Bubba job by yours truly:

While not benchrest grade, I reamed the chamber on the tight side of SAAMI for .30-06, using a pull-through match reamer by hand, and glass-bedded it after installing a Timney Featherweight trigger. 3/4" groups at 100 yards with 168gr MatchKing handloads are fairly easy to do, even with the vintage 2.5x scope. I take this old girl deer and elk hunting without qualms.

In a concession to more modern times, here's a .308 Winchester Remington 700PSS in the original green H-S Precision stock. It has a Shilen trigger, Gre-Tan modified striker, Armstech floorplate extension, Leupold QRW bases and rings, Sightron 4-16x42 Mil-Dot scope, and was skim bedded before torqueing to 65 inch-pounds. Best groups to date put the rounds inside 1/4" at 100 yards, using Lapua brass and Sierra 155gr Palma bullets on top of IMR4895. I'm currently working with Lapua D46 rebated boattails for work past 500 yards.
