Letter to Anti-Gun Waffle House

SAWBONES,

Exactly. What part of concealed do some of you not understand?

I understand the point completely. However, I personally am reluctant to pass my hard-earned money to a business which desires to render me defenseless. The fact that they're unable to enforce their desires is of little importance to me. If they really feel that armed citizens are too dangerous, then I'm happy to oblige them and go elsewhere.

As for Waffle House, I generally avoid them anyway.

I did a google search of "waffle house" robbery and came up with 26,000 hits. Do you really want to leave your protection in the car with odds like that?

In Awful Waffle's defense, they have a LOT of locations. Over 1700 stores. So to compare with your Google results:

Google hit to store count ratio (lower is safer): 1.53

I got 37,300 hits for ihop robbery. They have 1,328 locations.
Google hits divided by number of stores (lower is safer): 28.09

Conclusion from Google results: eating at Waffle House, which bans carry, is safer than eating at IHOP, which allows any patron carrying within the law to carry.

Sorry to play devil's advocate.

I carried in a Louisiana waffle house just the other day. I was there very early in the morning with a buddy after dropping some folks at the airport. There was no signage and I didn't think twice about it. I will continue to do so.

I thought you were writing a letter to Congress. I forget there was an actual place called "Waffle House"

I like Waffle House -- I am a sucker for short order food generally, and when I want a 2 am breakfast of eggs, waffles and coffee, I at least know that the big black-and-yellow sign means. (Their prices, though, are not quaint throwbacks, or even close -- pretty pricey, for what you get.)

I've not noticed no-carry signs, but then I haven't been to one in a long time.

Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention -- it will certainly make me eat slightly differently on my road trip to the West Coast.

Esmith, people come to Reno from Sac and the Bay Area. After they loose all their money in the casinos, they need a little something to get home on and rob something on their way out of town. Within 25 minutes you can be over the California state line and lost in the traffic.

"Concealed means concealed."

Ah, rolls off the tongue like sweet honey.

But when you say it in this context, it sure sounds like, "Giving my hard earned money to cowards who don't respect human rights, instead of giving it to honest businessmen who do respect my rights."

Don't it?

I'm not sure I understand the rationale behind the email in the first place. Did you really think they were going to say "Yes it's ok for you to carry a gun in our restaraunt." or were you looking to start a pissing contest?

Do you make a habit of asking in every business you enter?

Unless there's a sign posted why bring it up, Carry concealed eat your waffle ( which will help you keep your mouth shut) and leave.
How hard is that?

Well, in states where a sign has no weight behind it, I say, concealed means concealed. In my home state of Virginia, the only charge you can get, is a trespassing charge, and that is only if they ask you to leave and you refuse. If somehow they find you carrying, just leave and you won't be charged with anything.

In states where a sign has the force of law behind it, well, then, go somewhere else.

BTW I like Waffle House...Good burgers, good waffles, good everything (that I've had) :)
Unhappy with this policy though.

Don't know about the one WH that started this post, but had breakfast at the one in Amarillo on Hollywood road, and I didn't see any signs. 30.06 or otherwise. Maybe just an individual store policy.

I've never seen a Waffle House that was posted. About the only restaurant that I've seen posted was Arby's, and of course there are others that we cant carry into because they serve alcohol (NC law).

You can ask just any customer service rep for just about any company and they'll tell you that CC isnt allowed, just because its a "safe" answer.

I can remember when a Lowe's or Home Depot store put the no carry signs up by mistake, lots of folks emailed, most got the same reply. Someone got ahold of one guy pretty high on the tierpole in that area, and he found out that the no carry signs were put up by mistake. They got new sign kits, scraped the old signs off, and put the no carry signs up because they were included.

In short, there was one guy that knew the signs weren't supposed to be there, and a dozen or so other folks that said "no weapons allowed."

If I dont see a sign on my way in, I'm going to assume its okay and CC. I'm not about to ask if its allowed or not, because I know the answer I'm gonna get. IMO that kinda like asking a LEO if he'd give you a ticket for going 8mph over the speed limit. Of course he's going to say yes, but in my county, they cant write you up unless you're doing 9mph over (traffic court got too crowded).

We have Awful Houses here, but I've not been to one yet. Am I missing anything?
better burger than McD's for the most part (and sometimes the food is faster), otherwise it varies by location. Sometime you can get a good meal, other times they crap on the plate and serve it. Most of the time its somewhere in the middle.

My take on these anti-gun businesses is that they do not want my business. I am under the impression that writing to them is a waste of time.

I have always been in retail or customer service. Sometimes customers get angry for whatever reason and tell us that they are taking their business elsewhere. Customers come and go for different reasons. Believe me when I tell you that letters or emails about guns will probably get a "Yeah...whatever" reaction from the organization. They will write you back, but they are more concerned about a rude server or cold food than your RKBA.

I live in maryland, I have been known to frequent the waffle house in Urbana.

The owner shoots a USP. If the state was pro concealed carry, he wouldn't give a damn.

Mind you, he also is pretty militant about keeping the place clean and the food pretty darn good.

That being said, I am a sucker for bacon and hash browns, and I like being able to watch them grill the stuff in front of you.

The problem with waffle house is when you are in georgia, there are so many of them they don't try quite so hard to be as good as they can be.

Since a number of the locations are owned privately, i would expect policy may vary. Also, for legal liability reasons, being offically ant-ccw but privately looking the other way is more likely the case.

but that's my bacon bribed .02

"double bacon eggs and cheese, wheat, plate, scattered smothered and chunked. coffee. small water." (bacon eggs and cheese sandwhich, extra bacon, wheat bread, hash browns, scattered for extra crispy, onions and ham)

Waffle House has good food?

We have a waffle house out by I-25.... Went there once.... and once was enough.

Low grade rat chow.

I think the most disconcerting part of this post is that someone who regularly carries a firearm isn't able to string together a complaint letter with the competency of a high school sophomore.

That said, I love Waffle House, and I carry there all the time. Their grits are awesome.

All of those who have harshly criticized the OP's grammar who have also written their own letter, or helped the OP by writing a letter with corrected grammar, hold up your hands.

Remember, the OP actually got off the couch and did something.

I know, we're the underdogs, the minority, and we've got to be well spoken, well groomed, well written to be taken seriously. But. Here we have someone who actually did something. In contrast to... those of us who did not. Want to squash that spirit? Or, help them to do it better next time?

Which way is the high road?

The only Waffle House I ever visited was in Tucson. When we pulled into park I notice a guy in the parking lot picking up trash and throwing it in the dumpster.

Went in and sat down. A rather tired looking waitress took our order and gave us some coffee. I happened to look back toward the kitchen and saw the cook.

Yeah, it was the same guy I spotted in the parking lot policing up the garbage. :uhoh: Lost my appetite. Never been to another since.
