I have a brand new Winchester 70 SS Extreme in 30-06 for deer hunting. I am trying to decide which scope to put on it. I am considering:

Leupold VX3 3.5-10-40
Trijicon 3-9x40 Accu-Point with amber dot

Which do you think is the better scope?

P.S. I have a VX3 on my Remington 700. It is a great scope. I have Trijicon ACOGs on my AR15s. The ACOGs are amazingly clear.

I own the same Trijicon you are interested in, in addition to owning multiple Leupolds and the only bad thing i can say about either is that the eye relief on the accupoint is a bit critical/short on 9x

I’m not a fan of high magnification optics. The scope I have mounted on my Winchester M70 30-06 is a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6X32mm with Heavy Duplex. This is me and not you. The best scope is the one that meets your expectations for the application.:)

The Leupold. I have a 3-9 Accupoint. It is OK but as stated, the eye relief is quite short. I could not use it on my 375 Ruger at higher magnification as it would hit me in the glasses. And I had to be pretty careful for the same reason even on a little 7mm RM.

My Accupoint reticle is not up to modern production expectations either. The post is unevenly "painted" and contains a noticeable air bubble near the aiming triangle.

I would glady trade it for the Leupold you mention.
