I have a 30-30 savage bolt action rifle, which has a 4 round magazine. I have held on to this rifle cause 30-30 bolt actions are not that common, recently I was offered a trade even swap, for a Sears 30-30 lever action looks like a winchester 94, lever action appears to be unfired no rust and has a chrome hatch or what ever you call where you insert the ammo. the lever action also has a simmons side mount scope on it. any suggestions on which way to go, I like my bolt action due to them being scarce, but don't want to pass up a better rifle if it is better, any thought will be appreciated.

I'd keep the Savage. If you must have a levergun save a little money - you can get a new Marlin at Walmart for $300, and the gunshop racks are full of good used ones for $250 and under.

The Savage 325/340 rifles are fine rifles, as is the Winny 94. The Savage is probably a wee bit more accurate, and can use spitzer/pointed bullets whereas the Winchester cannot.

They're just two different answers to the same question - I don't think that one is 'better' than the other. The Simmons scope isn't a huge draw to me, since I don't trust Simmons scopes much after having had a couple of 'em not work out for me. You *can* put a scope on the Savage if you find the proper side mount for it, as it sounds like the Winchester has had done.

The question is which one do you shoot better or prefer in terms of looks and feel? That's the one to have.

As others have said, keep the Savage and save up some money for a lever action. You will be happier in the long run.

I also agree with everyone else. Keep the Savage. You can always find a Win or Marlin lever action.

I have the 1971 Winchester '94 .30-30 I've talked about in other posts... the one with the tang mounted Lyman #2 rear sight. I also have a Savage Model 340 in .30-30. I like both as they both do quite well for me and neither is going anywhere. You can't beat a good .30-30 and both are good. So is Marlin 336, but my Winchester just fits me too well for me to prefer on the Marlin/Winchester debate.

Thanks for all the input

Thanks you all for the input I'm going to keep the savage
