Hey guys I have a question about purchasing the Liberty Lincoln gun safe. I have been in the market for a safe for a while and one recently came up on craigslist for sale used. It is a Lincoln Liberty 25 gun safe. My question is if anyone know the specifications because it was manufactured in 2005. I am sure they are different than the newer ones. It is for sale for $1000. That a good buy? Seems pretty good to me considering they retail for 2500. It is great condition. What are pros cons?

The question is: What do you need? If you need substantial burglary protection, or fire protection, or both, then the question becomes what's your potential loss?

The Liberty is an RSC, and if I remember correctly, there is no plate steel in the hull at all. That model may have a small steel plate supposedly protecting the lock, but I doubt it. Even if it does have that plate, it's more of a sales tool than actual theft deterrent.

I don't know your budget, but I presume like most of us, you want to get the best protection you can for the dollar spent. The flip side of that coin is that if you're putting a pistol, a shotgun, 4 milsurps, and a camera in it, that's one thing. But, if you have $8,000.00 worth of heirloom silver, irreplaceable historic family photo's and several firearms worth a grand apiece, that's another. However, anything is better than nothing. But if the proposed contents are of respectable value, I'd be looking at an AMSEC BF series or something like that.

My budget is $2500. This was the one I was looking at between this and a sturdy. One happened to come up that was used the other day on the web. I am looking for both burglary and fire protection. I have read very good reviews about liberty in general especially with the middle to high end safes they produce. I doubt the average thief would be able to break into it. Also I will have it mounted in a difficult place to get leverage on the door to open it. The lincoln is not the bottom line of their safes and it was bought from the distributor not a big box store.

My opinion would be to get the Sturdy. I regard Liberty as a triumph of marketing over reality. Search my posts, I do know something about the subject.

That Liberty Lincoln sounds like a good deal to me . I would buy it if I didn't think I was going to out grow it in a few years . But even if you do out grow it , I don't think that you would lose any money at that price , if you were to sell it .

I went ahead and picked it up. I agree with red rick about it being a good deal. I dont have a lot of guns now so it will take me a few years to out grow. The price was right for what I need. I would rather have the study as well but I didnt want to wait six more months to save to be able to get the sturdy. To many break ins in my area to not have my guns locked up for that much longer. Thanks for the input cb900F
