Limited Component Load Development

Ref-223/556
None of my rigs do very well with 52 ELD-Ms.

55 & 62 fmj do fare.

68HMs seem to do the best in the AR.

69 & 77 SMK work best in my turn bolt.

I even tried the 52s in my heavy barrel 22-250 and they didn't do well. It does best w/ 55 and 62s.

I tried the hornady 68 grain 0.224 caliber bullets in Hornady Frontier ammo. I couldn’t keep 5 shots in an 8” target from 200 yards. Fortunately the RMR 69 grain bullets are better.

You now make the 4th person besides myself that couldn't get the Hornady 68gr to shoot.

Awesome, I just bought a box of these to try in a rifle that's been giving me problems with known good ammo.
Can't wait to see the disaster that awaits me. :(
In my 1:9 twist I was getting MOA results. Using 69gr SMK, RMR and Nosler I was shooting .5moa in the same rifle.

They’ll probably shoot great. It’s just one of those weird times that my rifle didn’t match well with those bullets (PSA lower kit with 16” upper). 75s shoot great, 55s shoot good too. Never tried the 68s in hand loads.

Looks like I tested Match Rifle/RMR 69 two different ways and got the same results, at least within 0.1 grains. 24.6-24.7 it is. The larger group from trying to confirm is within the predicted range when using small groups like 3 or 4 shots.

Don't close the book before reading the first paragraph.... they did good in my varmint Silhouette rifle. Only had one box but did .75moa at 300.

The RMR 69 grain may become my standard projectile for full power loads. I have to clear my bench first though. I have the 52 gr Match Burner to load with TAC. I may try to push the RMR a little faster but the accuracy is about what I’d expect for my budget guns and reloading gear.

I was doing good at 24.0 in a bolt gun. Jake recommended 24.4 and that runs great in.my AR
In that range should be your jam.

What kind of velocity do you get in the 24.4 grain charge range? I’m hoping for 2700+, but I don’t think I’m quite there.

I tried to find a load for 55 grain FMJ using CFE 223 in my newly assembled Roscoe barreled rifle. I’ll post a picture later but the test was a hot mess as far as I can tell. I realize FMJ isn’t the most accurate bullet but I don’t see any charge range worth retesting. I was trying to find a 3000+ fps load to use up some extra powder.

On the range the wind swirls a little, as it has berms on three side, but generally it was right to left. Distance is 100 yards aiming at a 1” dot.

Marks on the left edge are the average elevations of the various color groups.

IMG_2522.jpeg Wind is definitely”
a factor here but yellow and brown share very little vertical and if not for the wind brown would have a nice overlap. No color is also overlapping but i think that’s the limit.

You could have two nodes here, 26.4-3%=25.6
Either should shoot well under better wind conditions.
Stare at it for awhile and see if you agree.

What I like about this is that you are out there putting in the work, and looking at a ladder that covers plenty of ground.

I probably should have shot out to 200 but it was more crowded.

I was ruling out the blue/green overlap, just because it probably won’t meet the intended velocity of 2950-3000 fps. However for an overlapping charge it’s the most clear.

I was leaning toward brown and no-color as the upper node based purely on the elevation difference, but yellow and brown are closer to overlapping positions in both elevation and windage.

The individual pairs are pretty tight other than the red and green.

I have three projectiles left from this box. I’ll load them up between brown and yellow to confirm. This load is intended to use some components I don’t use in any other load right now. I have some CCI #41 and CFE 223 I tried in several other combinations but availability and price have pushed those loads out of my range.
