I hated the 240B at first. They took the damn coax that I remember jamming up all the time, dressed it in plastic and told me to carry the sucker around instead of the M60. Oh my achin back. The thing was heavier and longer than the pig. It weighs around 30 lbs. unloaded and is about 50 inches long. After traveling via LPC (Leather Personnel Carriers aka boots) for awhile the 240 is like a mother-in-law. A huge pain in the neck.
Then I shot it. Laying in the prone behind it, it felt more solid and comfortable than the pig did. It was deffinately designed to shoot rather than to carry. I hear stories all the time about how guys would almost have an orgasm in their pants when the 60s were rockin, but the pig is nothing compared to the 40. The thing was quite abit louder with a much deeper report and at about 900 RPM it was damn intimidating.
When we got to Iraq, the only carrying was to and from hummers, so I was spared my achin back and left with nothing but LUV for the 240. There were no occurances of jams, but there was a cook off once. Basically as with any weapon if you treat is with respect and take care of it, it will treat you with respect and take care of you. As I used to say, " Keep your weapon ready to rock, and it will rock any time you are ready!"

Is it OK to put out video of the base?
Generally it is a very very bad idea to put out video of bases. The UCMJ would ram its rod of justice quite far up your brown eye for doing the act. The footage of the base in the video from this thread, however, gives no valuable views of any of the defenses of the post. The wire, burm, and desert standoff is standard defensive posture used in outposts througout the theatre.

Was that a sight rail on the receiver? It seemed to vibrate around a noticably amount. Would that cause problems using any sighting system on that rail?
Good observation. That is indeed a rail mount on the feed tray cover. Several different optics can be mounted on the weapon. The ELCAN is the most common. It has a 3 or 4x magnification I can't quite remember. It might even be inbetween like a 3.5X or something. The PVS-4 is also common. There is a thermal sight as well, but the thing is huge and cumbersome looking, though I've never used one. It might seem like vibrating would cause a problem with a sight, but it doesn't. It is quite easy to keep a sight picture on your target using the ELCAN and PVS-4.
