Well, someone decided to implement a weapons cleaning "schedule," instead of trusting me to ensure my guys took care of their gear. Today is the day.

So this morning, i decided "Well, if we all gotta sit around and clean em, we may as well ensure that they're dirty to begin with,"

So we shot some rounds. I took some video, and figured i'd put up a clip. First part is me shooting a couple of HE rounds out of my 203. Second is a belt of ammo thru the 240.

Enjoy! I had fun :)

Simply awesome... nice to see you having some fun over there.

Loved seeing the 3 foot long belt slinking across the ground. Very nice.

I may have to enlist... just so I too can do some "gun cleaning".

:)

We're on a remote 20 man outpost in the middle of nowhere. Rules for going to the "Range" (a berm at the end of the outpost) is the normal common sense stuff you'd do in the US. Ear protection, eye protection, let the tower know you're shooting

cool.

I just launched some 40mm rounds out into the shat river about an hour ago.

serious training of course;)

No prob, thank YOU for paying my bills ;-)

Thats a great reply.

I usually feel akward when people thank me, heck where else can you shoot bad guys, protect good guys, blow things up and not have to mow the lawn??:D

I try to deflect it with that humorous comment.

No offense to the thankers, but I feel really awkward being thanked. I joined the army to protect americans, and I'm not doing that here.

Plus, I'm only here because I got out of the Army and was forced back in with the IRR callups.

So, when people say thanks, it makes me feel like a schlub, because it's like they're thanking me for something that I'd really rather not be doing.

Anyways, that little tidbit is always a good icebreaker. Feel free to use it!

Speaking of which, another thing that makes me uncomfortable is the free drinks... it's happened to me quite a few times. I usually try to accept, then buy a round so I don't feel guilty about it. LOL

Alrighty, then, how's "Thanks for it being you over there and not me."

Seriously, though, I'm too old and fat for that kind of stuff now.

I don't give a rat butt if you were drafted in the middle of the night and taken there at gun point (well, okay that would kinda negate good intentions).
I am from a time when some folks went North when they were drafted--though I missed that draft myself.
And if you hated that thanks, you will really hate the way I truely feel:
Thank god for people like you sir.
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Thank you for your selfless acts that we can never re-pay.
I think every day: I live the way I live, because others have given their life so that I may.
I damn sure do not want to live a life that dishonors your, or their, sacrifice.
So keep your damn head down, watch your six, and take the thanks you DO deserve.:cuss:

I have a buddy in the corp on his third Iraq tour for the same reason. He feels the same way. He just says your welcome to the thanks, and passes on the drinks. I did my time in the reserves, and got a free vacation to the Soviet Sandbox. You would not know to look at me now though :D . When people said thanks I kinda felt like a heel cause on one hand I believed in the war in Afghanistan. On the other hand I was only there in the first place cause I was looking to pay for college. You shouldnt feel awkward though. Remember you unlike most Iraq War supporters had the guts to serve. Keep your head down, and come back safe. God speed

P.S How do you like the 40? I never got any trigger time on one, we were still issued 60's which IMO dont like sand.

And that's why we're still allowed to thank you....

Thank you for you service. I know for a lot of people their national service does not turn out to be what they expected. Zillions of guys got seemingly useless duty; manning tundra posts in Alaska, guarding helium reserves (yes, the US military keeps a strategic supply of helium, in case blimps are ever needed), destroyer patrol in the South Atlantic, etc. Other guys think they got useless duty, only to see it become real important real fast, like the guys stationed on Wake Island in December 1941. Who gets what duty is the luck of the draw, and I value all service equally.

Forgive the dumb question:

Doesn't dragging the ammo belt through the sand like that tend to fill up the weapon with sand and cause problems?

The 40mm is an effective tool. With the wide variety of payloads you can deliver it is a good option for those whos roles may change. Star illum, parachute flares, gas, HE, smoke, less lethal... you name it.

I deny having been involved, but I heard once about some guys who (yesterday) launched some cheetos rounds at some Hajis pretending to be fishing in boats way too close for comfort.

Didja know you can skip a 40mm across the water. I think Haji number 2'd in the Shat river when those rounds came skipping across the water towards him:what:

I of course have no independant recollection of any events that may resemble the above statement.

Holy heck it was funny.

you could take a big dump in the chamber of a 240B and still rock and roll:D fantastic weapon system. i once put 400 rounds with HIDEOUSLY rusted links through one without a hiccup. they will eat whatever you put in them.

Yeah... that 240 is super reliable.

I actually prefer IT on my truck to the Ma Deuce.

Chews up anything you throw at it :)

including dirty ammo. LOL

If I recall correctly, the cyclic rate is adjustable on the M240 just like its cousin the M249.
I take it the gun was on low? Sounded like it.
Then again my experience with the M240 was the ones mounted on the Bradleys - very high cyclic rate.
The ground squads were still using the M60s.
