LJ's Milsurp Stocks

The way I was thinking was making a mag that goes from double- to single-stack, while still making use of the disruptor. The magazine would probably have to be loaded with stripper-clips still, but there's more ammunition than normal.

Cut the feedlips off of the Lahti mag, slide it up into the original magwell (modify the TG/magwell as much as necessary for this, it's a replaceable part) until the top of the Lahti magazine is flush with the location of the original MN follower, and let the interruptor/ejector do it's job and act as the feedlip for the Lahti mag. Dunno if it'll keep the Lahti follower from jumping out the top of the receiver, though...

You'd still have to deal with the above problems, because double stack to single feed is exactly what the Lahti mags are.
Its a cool idea and I hope you can find a way to make something work, I'd be ready to put in an order if you decided to market it. I admit I don't see it working though. People have been trying to adapt PSL/Dragunov/Lahti mags to the mosin and tried to make their own magazines for years and years. The only thing thats come of it was Datamancer's magazine, and he hasn't had any updates in a long time unfortunately.

Couldn't you just cut the feed-lip from one side of the magazine, and let the disruptor be that side's feed lip? I've got some thinking to do... lol

Problem is, the bolt lug would hit the Lahti lip. It has a cutout for the interruptor, but I think making one for the Lahti lip would compromise safety.

One thing to keep in mind, the bottom quote from the reference I posted above was from A-Kmanator on the AK Files forum. He's taken the Lahti mags and adapted them to several different rifles. Part of me thinks that if it would have been an easy fix like you're suggesting, he would have done it.

Sorry to be the pessimist! I'd love a larger magazine for the Mosin though.

Well, I might just have to design and build my own then, probably incorporate something into a bedding block, as well.

True, I forgot about that.

You wouldn't need the interrupter if you were using a magazine though?

What Turtle said.

One thing about me, I always find a way, lol.

It certainly would be neat if you or somebody eventually got a higher cap magazine for the Mosin worked up. Imagine the possibilities for making a scout rifle.

Until the spring steel loses it's spring. Lol. Mine did and I had to apply a slight bend into it so it'd be springy and function. Well, I can try something, I do have 880 rounds sitting around for the rifle now.

Took some measurements of the stock tonight, this is after doing some narrowing to it:

Fore-end:

Wrist (above the thumb-hole):

Cheek-piece:

Pic of the stock:

If anyone remembers, the stock was just shy of 2.5" thick, before shaping. Here in the pictures, if you can see them, are some dimensions. I'll post the numerical values below:

Fore-end is 1 7/8"
Wrist is 1 1/2"
Cheek-piece is 1 5/8"

I think this one, unless testing proves it to be strong enough for consistent use, will only be used as a master-copy, ready to go on a duplicator for mass production (as mass as I can get lol).

Hey guys, I'm gonna be keeping you all updated as best as possible. Starting off by saying:

Right now I'm kind of at a stand-still, have had some issues getting a hold of tools, and using them. I'm pretty much at the whim of my step-dad when it comes to these (man, do I need to get my own) but at the same time he's decided he doesn't want any work done in the house. Unfortunately, my job doesn't give me the hours or pay rates to get out on my own, so I'm kinda stuck here, momentarily. I am talking with work about more hours, but am also out looking for another job.

Because of these issues with the step-dad, I'm pretty much at a stand-still, but I'm hoping to change this situation soon, I haven't forgot about it.

I'm adding a Carcano tomorrow, most likely, as a birthday gift to myself, using birthday money as the funds, so starting my 23rd year of life (today) with a new rifle to model a stock off of (eventually).

I'll keep ya posted, but feel free to make any suggestions regarding technique, ask questions, et cetera. I'll be happy to answer them.

Honestly you should be saving that money to move out. Just my opinion. Can't you work out on the lawn or something? Maybe a friend would be willing to let you work at their house.

That's the thing, no one else I know has these tools, and the tools are my step-dads. Saving money to move out, while a great idea, still wouldn't pay the bills. Not trying to make excuses, just stating my issues. However, if I can convince Herr Führer to let me use the tools, I can continue the project outside. Though I really don't have too much more to do on this stock.

And not having too much more is what's really getting at me, I just have to put a final shape to the stock, inlet, and channel, which I could probably get done in a couple days if I work at it, but the problem rests with mood-swing about me using the tools.

Moving out is in the plans, I have this, and another project that I'd like to have a garage for, but even then I would be at a stand-still for getting tools lined up.

Not trying to make excuses, just stating the issues and the situation. I'm looking for another job, either one that pays better, or one that I can work and still keep the job I'm at now.

Guess I'm kinda glad I don't have any orders for any of these yet, I feel bad enough not being able to make much progress as it is.
