I recently acquired a good supply of Winchester WAA12, WAA12F1 and Claybuster WAA12F1-SL equivalent wads. There's plenty of load data in my Lyman #4 and new #5 shotshell reloading manuals for the WAA12 wads, but I don't have anything with load data for the F1 and F1-SL wads. Where's a good source for load data using these wads in Winchester 2 3/4" AA compression-formed hulls, especially for 7 1/2 sized lead shot? The guy I bought them from said he'd been sitting on them for probably 10+ years...

From Chuckhawks web site:
http://www.chuckhawks.com/shotshell_reloading_data.htm
Winchester AA case, 1 ounce of shot, Win. WAA12F1 wad, 17.5 grains 700-X powder, Win. 209 primer. MV 1200 fps; 8,500 LUP.

Winchester AA case, 1 ounce of shot, Win. WAA12F1 wad, 16.5 grains 700-X powder, Win. 209 primer. MV 1145 fps; 9,000 LUP.

If you have some Remminton STS hulls around:
Remington Premier STS case, 1 ounce of shot, Win. WAA12F1 wad, 17.5 grains 700-X powder, Win. 209 primer. MV 1200 fps; 8,500 LUP.

Remington Premier STS case, 1 ounce of shot, Win. WAA12F1 wad, 16.5 grains 700-X powder, Win. 209 primer. MV 1145 fps; 9,000 LUP.

So the F1's are generally for lighter shot loads than the standard WAA12's?

Yes, they're nominally for 1 ounce loads. I don't know, have never seen before, the F-1 SL wads. I suspect they're for Super Lite loads, maybe for 7/8 ouncers? Compare the three wads side by side. If the shotcup of the FI SL wads is shorter than the F-1, then it IS for 7/8 ounce loads. Are they gray in color? I seem to remember an ultra lite wad for 7/8 loads for skeet that was a gray color.

Lyman Shotshell Manual 3rd Edition:
All Winchester WAA12F1 wads (pink color)

NO loads listed for anything but 1 oz. loads. All Winchester data from years past uses 452 AA powder with the 1 oz charges. Winchester said that for the WAA12F1 data can NOT be substituted for the
WAA12-SL wad.

OK, it makes sense now...

The Claybuster wads I have are model #CB1100-12 which, on the package, says is a "WAA12F1/SL replacement". The Claybuster website now lists the CB1100-12 wad as "(WAA12SL)" and the Winchester site says the WAA12SL "can be used anywhere 1 ounce F1 was recommended."

If Winchester says the WAA12SL can be used in loads calling for the WAA12F1 wad, why would the previous poster say Winchester says NOT to use the F1 in loads for the SL? Is it only one-way backwards compatible? Why not use F1 wads in current load info calling for the SL wad?

I was quoting from Winchester's 10th Edition Reloading pamplet 1989. In a section with at the time, new Super-Lite powder. After the data tables they said, " The WAA12F1 wad cannot be substituted for the WAA12SL Wad in the above load data...... If you have a source with data that says they can be substituted one for the other then I'd trust that data. Sorry for any confusion caused.
