Anyone have load data for 7.62 x 39 with .310 123 gr bullet using H4227 powder ( powder is over 30 years old but still good)
Thanks

Hodgdon's data site does not have it

I e-mailed them 5 days ago---- no answer--I will call them tomorrow
I think 20 gr will be a moderate load but I would rather have the factory data
Thanks,
H

Listed for 125 gr bullet, which is pretty close. From Hodgdon 2008 manual.
IMR 4227 (considered equivalent to H4227) 18.5 gr, 1,995 fps, 44,100 cup, OAL 2.180.
This is a max load, so work up to it.

Speer Manual shows 20-22 gr IMR4227
I have been using 20 gr IMR4227--works good
Hodgdons data will not eject shell on some rifles (sks)

Called Hodgdon
Today they have no data( 7.62 x 39) for IMR4227 or H4227 except for a 108gr bullet
They are no help

Actually, they were a big help IMO. Usually when the powder manufacturer doesn't have data for a powder/cartridge combination there is usually very good reason. I know powders are hard to find but if you could find another powder you will be better off.

I just looked up Lyman

Imr4227---123gr bullet for 7.62 x 39 use 20 to 22 gr
It appears that my IMR4227 load is good

BTW--I have lots of powder--just trying to use up some of the old stuff

I dug up my 1970 Lyman manual--no data for 7.62 x 39---I BEEN AT THIS LONGER THAN I REMEMBER

If the data is in a Lyman book it's probably good. I know what you mean about wanting to use up powders you no longer use much.

May not be of any help, but when 4227 was the only powder I could find for my lead 155gr, I used 16gr and it ran at 1550fps in my CZ 527m.

4227 is actually a magnum pistol powder.

Now my Lyman manual shows a 123gr SP 20-22gr max at 2204fps for 4227.

I have used Extreme 123gr plated FP with good results using Accurate 5744 in a SKS, H-4198 works as well. What will you be shooting these in?

I have used 4227 for loads for my AK. I cast my own bullets and used a 160 grain mould. the bullets cast out to be right at about 170gr. I used 25 grains of 4227 and it fired excellent and cycled the rifle just fine. I have not worked any loads for accuracy. It is a great round that I have even loaded up 212gr cast bullets in with the same powder. Im sure if you wanted to go subsonic with the round you could work up a load for that fairly easy. If you are looking for a way to convert your steel berdan primed cases into reloadable Boxer primered cases you can go check out the system I patented to do it. It is very easy to convert them with this system. For more info you can check out www.russianreloads.com. Hit me up on there or here if you would like more info.
