Loads for 45 Auto 230gr Hornady XTP/HP?

Today I got out and tested some loads. The bullet used was Hornady XTP/HP 230gr. They were seated at 1.21, Hornady states 1.23. I have to seat them that deap for my 1911. I used Winchester 231 powder. The loads that I shot were 5 gr with an average of 751fps, 5.1gr with an average of 765fps, 5.2gr with an average of 769fps, 5.3gr with an average of 793fps, 5.4gr with an average of 797fps, and 5.5gr with an average of 831fps. My question is should these loads fall within safe limits? The only listing I have for this bullet is the Hornady book. Like I said before they have the OAL at 1.23 and thats to long for my gun. All loads were shot over a chrono.

Tank, According to Layman's book 5.2 of 231 is a starting load out to a max of 5.8 As far as your OAL I use a mag and a case gauge to set mine, however Lyman's for that bullet weigh 1.275

Nice looking data, and very similar to what I have seen from other actual chrono data from a 1911 using WW231/230 grain jacketed bullets. Your data is book safe, and as long as worked up and safe in your pistol, you are all set. You will see some data go as high as 6.1 grains for 230's with WW231.

Should you want to really step things up, you might try AA#5, HS-6, some published Unique data, and other moderate speed propellants.
