LOL drilled through carpet must see

So, this is what happens when you drill through carpet — with a hammer drill, no less. Lesson learned. At least the concrete anchors are secure. Can I fix this?

I originally saw only the inside of the safe and thought; "Geez.... this guy is picky. Just close the door!"

Then I scrolled down.

Not to worry, I have a sure-fire plan for that guaranteed to make it completely un-noticable.

Get a bigger safe.

LOL. Nope! :p

Been there, done that with Rottweiler puppies with that type of carpet. They love it, so much fun. :D
Yup - that time when your Rottweiler comes in the room with carpet-thread dental-floss stuck in her teeth and you look at her and wonder; "Which of us is gonna get it worst for that?"

AK103K's tack above blaming the vacuum is brilliant..... simply BRILLIANT!

Todd.

Don't know of it'd be possible given the location, but we had something similar happen when your vacuum caught on a part sticking up and caused a run like that. We were having some other carpet installed and I talked to the installers about it. They were able to cut just that section out and stretch the carpet to meet where they cut it out.

Now, in that case it was all the way across the hallway so they were able to cut out the entire width to do it, so don't know if you'd be able to have someone do that with what you have there.

If you can't do that, I like the throw rug idea. Could even get a 2A themed one!

As an aside, when I was getting our safe in, I put a nice little gouge in our 90+ year old hardwood floor. My wife didn't notice it for probably over a year, it's not that noticeable unless you catch it at just the right angle. But when she did, oh boy. That was a long week.

If you go the throw-rug route, you will want something thin, but grippy (trust me, slippery in front of the safe is just not good).
Which suggests a door mat or something similar.
Or, maybe a bamboo non-slip mat, like this:

So, make you you sell it as a "feature" rather than a defect.

Depends.

Do you have a wife? Has she seen it yet? Do you have a dog (see above) to blame it on or a kid maybe :) ?

I think you're in bad shape regardless. Throw rug is best option I think.

Air gap under the safe is helpful if you're in a humid environment.
Luckily, none of the above. I live alone in my own home. Throw down rug is a great idea. That seems to be the easiest and cheapest remedy.. even if it looks odd in a bedroom. But hey, who’s going to know?

I decided to put it directly on the floor and anchor it into the concrete. As for humidity, I live in the least humid state in the country: Alaska.

I am in bad shape, because I’m beating myself up over what I could’ve done differently. I’d be in better shape if I’d taken my time. The first three holes turned out OK; I didn’t cause any runners from those, because I started out tiny and used progressively larger drill bits. The speed of the drill shredded the carpet before it had a chance to wrap around the tiny bit. On the fourth hole, I got cocky and started out with a larger drill bit that pulled in the carpet really quickly. Really dumb move. ‍

I learned that lesson at an early age as an Electrician. I would make a cake cutter by grinding a knife edge on the corresponding diameter pipe nipple and cut a clean hole in the carpet before drilling.
That’s really smart. I took an electrician’s class earlier this year that involved all sorts of electrician tasks, including bending conduit. I can see how your method would work really well for cutting carpet.

Just put an indoor rubber mat (like you'd find in a kitchen) over the boo boo and pretend it's part of your decorating theme. If that's the worst thing you ever do you're way ahead of the game. If you're married you're on your own.
