Putting a scope on a FN M1930 Mauser carbine in .30-06. Will be using a Brenshok, LLC scout mount over the rear sight. Rings need to be pretty low.

I don’t know much at all about optics or mounts. Looking to get some advice on what to get for it or do. I have about $420 into the gun as it sits so not really wanting to spend $600 on a scope and rings. That said, don’t want to buy garbage either.

Two sets of low rings I know first hand about are the medium height Weaver Quad Locks and the low height Burris Zee rings. The medium height Quad Locks are actually as low as the low Zee rings.

If you look at the 3 rifle photo at the Bren Shok website, the middle rifle has the medium height Quad Locks. http://www.brenshok.com/

The Scout Rifle community seem to love the medium Quad Locks due to their light weight and appear to hold up to recoil well. They are cheap to purchase, and look cheap to the eye, but they seem to work really well.

Regarding the scope, get a scout type scope for the proper eye relief. Pistol scopes tend to have too much eye relief which doesn't work well on rifles.

If looking at eye relief numbers, don't go higher than 9" if at all possible. 12" eye relief and above is just miserable on a rifle with a forward scope mount.

I have a Burris fixed power scope that is very nice, if you don't mind fixed power scopes.

Well, still pondering after a long work week and a wasted trip to a big box store to handle some LER scopes.

I put those quad locks in my wishlist on Amazon. Thanks guys!

I have put three quad weaver rings on my short, kicking like hell 12ga mag turkey shotgun using a 1x4 -20 leupold and they hold the scope with out any movement at all. eastbank.

I asked for recommendations for a scout scope some time back. A lot of people suggested a Burris. The deal I had going fell through at the time, so I never had a chance to look at one. You may want to look at them.

Actually have a Burris and mounts on the way from a friend. Came with his Marlin Guide Gun and he prefers irons. If I like it he’s selling it cheap.
