Long Gun Transportation Method Poll

What do you use to transport your long guns:

1. Long bag, like the SKB shotgun cases
2. Tactical nylon bag, like the Eagle ones with the mag pouches on the side
3. Hard case, like the Pelican cases
4. Other, such as a golf bag, guitar case, duffle bag, etc?

I live in the apts and sometimes park far aways from my car. A nylon ninja bag would be nice, but don't want everyone to see it. Not sure what I will do at this point.

You can get an old guitar case, or in your case, a banjo case and remove the insides. Use egg foam and you are done my friend.

I also live in an apt. I keep CCW's here, have a safe and all , but my long guns are in a walk in vault elsewhere.

I use a off-white civilian version of a duffle bag...like the military use. Soft zippered case goes inside this. Also use plain cardboard box--not the ones the guns come in--tripods, telescopes, levels...etc. People just figure I'm a regular guy , not a shooter.

I use hard cases for the protection. I'm not about to risk my M1A scout/Aimpoint or Tikka/Nikon Monarch combos in a soft case in the back of the van with the rest of the gear. Much peace of mind knowing that if all the crap back there shifts, my rifles are safe.

As for security, I load everything execpt the guns under cover of darkness the night before in the driveway. Other than the cooler/muchies all that's left the next morning is to quickly toss the guns in.

I mostly use a double-rifle hard case in a green nylon zippered bag from Cabelas. The shoulder strap makes it easy to carry and if I stuff a coat in it on one side it looks like a lumpy duffel bag.

The two shotguns I use the most break down and go in soft cases. Both of those fit in an old green laundry bag or I roll them both up in my sleeping bag if I'm taking one.

The neighbors are so used to seeing me loading up fishing rods, coolers, camping gear and armloads of power tools that they don't seem give any of it a second glance.

Pelican case for long guns going to the 100yrd range.

Boyt soft padded case if I'm taking one rifle to the indoor range.

If I'm on the motorcycle I just run a cable lock through the action and sling it over my shoulder... just like Wes in 'The Road Warrior'

I use a Dockosil hard case. I don't try to hide it either, I'll carry it out to my car in broad daylight and everything. If you're so afraid of your neighbors seeing you with a gun case, you're either living in the wrong neighborhood, or you need to grow a spine and stop caring what the neighbors might think.

I prefer a hard case, but the ones I have don't fit in my crappy little car without putting the back seat down.

There are some methods you oversaw

-The DT: Put the gun in a plastic bag, and duct tape the bag to your back. Put on a overcoat and hope you're tall enough to hide the gun. Refrain from bending over. Ever.

-Action Star: Field strip your weapon, put it all into a small briefcase. Sunglasses optional. For maximum effect, sneak upto a tall building and assemble the weapon, while a presidental parade is going on.

-Trash can guy: Tactically acquire a set of garbage man's uniforms. Put the rifles in a garabage bag, and drag them around while mumbling. B.O. optional.

When I pick it up from my friends house I use a black ninja case to go to the range.

Gun rack anyone? My car is probably the only Subaru Forester with a ceiling mounted gun rack in the U.S.

Good advice, blades. Except that California is one big contiguous Bad Neighborhood when it comes to scaring the sheeple. A little discretion goes along way if you're not fortunate enough to live a semi-free state like Arizona.

Not a problem where I live, though. I just chuck 'em in the back of the truck.

My guns deserve the best: a leather case with wool lining, like a good leather jacket!

2 gun hard case if I'm bringing all sorts of guns and gear to a bigger event or if I need to pack them with other stuff in the back of the truck

I don't mind being seen with a gun, even an uncased one. I've yet to meet anyone remotely anti here, and I don't think the risk of burglary is increased that much if at all.

Guns just aren't a big deal around here. They're just, well, guns.

Most of the time, if I'm just going to the range, I'll throw a towel over them when I carry out of the house. Then pile them on the back seat.

The more expensive ones are transported in hard cases to protect optics and prevent cosmetic damage. Old shotguns and .22's are in soft cases.

I use those nondescript cheap (plano -berrys -mtm) black rifle cases , when I was asked by a neighbor if I was going shooting (what type of gun you got ??) I tell them they are expensive fishing poles , or my pool cues ( hmm... high powered pool cue )but the best one is when I had my Transit( surveying equipment ) in one and opened it up at the range ... and people where surprised .. (so was I how many bullseyes can you get with one of those??welll at least the targets where level ) as for Indiana carry .. have a p/u truck so I would have to put them in my tool box .

I carry my guns to the range in Spongebob Squarepants wrapping paper. When I get there, and open up the back of the Jeep, it's like Christmas morning!

if you wanna come and take em go ahead and try... if they scare you, then don't piss me off... it's not the rifles you gotta worry about, they're not loaded .....

im thinking about building a rack into the back seat of the scrubaru... give me some fiberglass!!!

but for now it's lay one in the seat, lay down the towel, rinse, repeat...

Depends...

I have soft cases (the kind with slings and mag pouches; are those "ninja cases"? ) for some of my rifles, but mostly I just carry them downstairs and toss them in the trunk or the passenger seat without a case (anything much longer than a 98k has to ride up front).

Then again, no one is going to freak at the sight of one or ten guns being dragged to the car; where I live, I've been known to leave my top down and the keys in the ignition during the day, only closing everything up at night.
