Long Range Rifle/Scope/PRS question(s)

what came apart on them?

Not to speak for @taliv, but it seems I recall chatting back and forth (maybe in this thread even) about how they came apart. The outer sleeve is threaded onto the baffle stack at one end, held with high temp epoxy from factory. Only takes a few thousand rounds and that breaks down and the sleeve will unthread from the stack. Doesn’t really hurt anything, and frankly I enjoy the fact I can ultrasonic clean my bafflestack now without damaging the external finish.

BUT...

It does qualify as a failure, as the can does come apart in a way it wasn’t supposed to.

Exactly what varmint said. The downside is my rifle won’t fit in pelican case without removing the can and sometimes after a match I’ll try to take it off and after a few revolutions realize I’m spinning the sleeve off the can instead of the can off the rifle.

That’s definitely a thing. I ordered another set of their wrenches and try to keep myself diligent about using it instead of turning off by the body (a habit which helps me burn my hands less anyway, since I often end up taking it off too hot to touch). I could high temp epoxy it again, even send it in for them to do it for free, but like I said, I kinda like it.

I’m (sort of committed to) going brake all season this year though. Assuming we’ll ever get to shoot a match... we extended our stay-at-home order last week, so the NRL Border Wars match I was entered in this weekend was cancelled yesterday.

Looks like Lilja is getting into the pre-fit business, at least for Defiance actions.

As of March 2020, we have started offering a Pre-Fit barrel for the following Defiance Actions. Price for prefit barrel in our standard blank is $565. Muzzle threading is available for an additional $75

Defiance Ruckus

Defiance AnTi

Defiance Tenacity

Chambering offerings. (This is a list of our most common offerings, if you don’t see what you are looking for, give us a call and we can work with you)

6 Dasher, 6 Br-ai, 6 Creedmoor, 6 GT, 6 x 47 lapua

6.5 x 47 Lapua, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC,

28 Nosler, 300 PRC, 300 Win Mag,

My home range opened up today for the first time in 6 weeks so I was able to do some load tests, specifically the new 6mm 109 Berger and some custom Bart’s Bullets 105 Hammers. Since interest in 6mm is prevalent in this thread I thought I’d leave it here.

I shot a narrowly focused OCW using H4895 for both bullets. Here’s the results.

My node for the 108’s, which I predominantly shoot, is 30.6. It looks like that repeats with the 109s, even though they are longer and have a shorter bearing surface (more VLD-like)

The Bart’s 105 Hammers were interesting. They are also longer than the 108s and similar to the 109s. The node here looks wide and pretty much spans the entire charge range. Not encountering any pressure signs makes me want to go up to 31.6 and see what I see.

Couldn’t get any speed data as the lighting at my range in the mornings isn’t enough to register on my chrono.

I’ll take the 109s at 30.6 and 105s at 31.0 and shoot a larger sample, as well as get some FPS data, hopefully this weekend

Dang natureboy, they all look so good! You should stretch the test out check it all out at 3-400 yds. Might be easier to see which one is winning here. Nice work man!

yeah, both bullets are pretty flat across the charge weights. My normal testing process is to take the selected charges and shoot a 20 shot string at 500 yards.

I got to the range today and did a quick check at 500 on the loads for the Berger 109s and the Bart’s 105s

The range hadn’t mowed the 500 yard lane so the grass was too high for me to shoot prone so I had to use the bench. Shot on 8” Shoot-N-C targets

The Bart’s 105s had better vertical. 31.1g H4895, 2,899 fps, ES 19, SD 8

And the Berger 109s. 2,834 fps, ES 12, SD 5

I’ve not done any seating dept tests yet, just used what I’ve been using for my Berger 108 loads. It also looks like my barrel is slowing down. I may be getting to the end of its life at ~1,400 rounds

What do you think?

Tweaked both loads with an additional 0.1g and shot a couple of test groups at 200. Kept the seating depth the same

105g Bart’s picked up more vertical

The 109 Bergers tightened up.

I think I’ll take the 109s at 30.9g to a match (when the NRA decides to have one again).

There’s no doubt the Bart’s Bullets are very good. They hold the current 600 yard bench rest group record (5 Shots - 0.282”). I’ll probably try them again with a new barrel when the time comes to replace the old one.

My GemPro-250 crapped out, which pushes the need for a better setup to the forefront, but it's 'sold out', anyone know if it will be offered again, or is this one with the measure the only option now.
