Damp first day at the STC Punisher Positional today. Shanked two stages and cost myself ~10pts below my average on the rest of the stages, and I shanked two bad trigger pulls I wish I could get back, but the course of fire is always fun at this one. We got a little wet at one point, and visibility was right on the edge of the farthest target, but the drizzle offered nearly ideal wind indication! New for this year, the range had added rain/sun canopies over most stages, and all of the RO’s were provided tents, so it was pretty easy to stay dry during the short drizzle. With those 2 bad stages, I’ll be sleeping tonight on a relatively abysmal 69 impacts for 72points on day 1, hoping to hold better consistency on day 2. Unlike this MD’s past habits, there are no traps between Day 1 and Day 2, it’s a contiguous 20 stage CoF with 20 squads so there’s no change in execution on Day 2, we just shoot our respective half the first day and the other half the second day. In other matches, this MD has built “day 1 stages” and “day 2 stages,” 2:00 for day 1, 90sec for day 2, and usually a lot more movement, smaller targets, less stable positions, etc., but this time it’s a bit more - predictable and consistent... So I’m hopeful to reduce my point bleed tomorrow and improve my percentage - even if I might not improve my match rank by much.
ETA: I was able to maintain much improved consistency on day 2. I made 82 impacts out of 98 possible, ~84.5%, landing me at 78.28 points for the match. The winning shooter only missed 5 shots out of 198. I raised 11 places from day 1 to 2. Unfortunately, if I’d not shanked those two stages and shot my average for the other 18 stages on those two, I would have been up another 10 points, and raise another 17 places, so it’s super frustrating to have dropped those two stages!! Every impact counts for a lot this season.
