I was at the local sporting goods store, pickin up some new hollowpoints and and extra mag for my PT145.

I inquired on 1911s as once I get my CCW, I am going to conceal carry my PT145, and want a 1911 for OC.

My criteria where that I was not wanting to pay alot, as in, not as much as what a Kimber costs, but I did want the bells and whistles (thumb safety, beaver tail, night sights, grips, etc.)

The recommended 1911 was the Taurus PT1911.

Any experience, etc. with this pistol?

I have had no problems as of yet with my Taurus Mil PRo .45, have had it for 4 years but she doesnt have alot of rounds through her, i.e. less than 100. Tomorrow gonna go put another 150 rounds through her though.

"Dang, were in a tight spot"

Oh Brother Where Art Though.

huh? Failed to catch whatever the referance was...or the joke you are pointing at me. (havent slept much lately)

Break it in with as many fmj rounds that you can afford.. Then buy a small selection of 20rd boxes of some premium ammo for reliability check

Remington Golden Sabers have a most excellent feed profile - start with those. If your Taurus won't function with them, you've got other issues, or need more break-in shooting to do

If you can wait, save your cash and buy a Kimber or Springfield

ps - get some quality magazines frm Ed Brown, Wilson, Shooting Star and Chip McCormick

My PT1911 has yet to malfunction. As far as ammo I've generally shoot the cheapest thing I can find at the cheapest store I can find it in. I've shot remington, wolf, winchester and others. In my limited experience it's a great gun. Go for it!

Ha! That barn scene is awesome.

The only problem that I've had with mine is that occasionally it won't want to feed the first round from a new mag of hollow points, but the two times it's done that I just popped that round out of the mag and it loaded the next one just fine.

Just pokin' fun at you for wanting all the bells and whistles without paying a lot. No offense intended. I hope I did not.

Funny, funny, movie, by the way. If you have not seen it, I recommend you rent it and see. :)

MSRP on a stainless Taurus 1911 is $860. Give me a break, for $850 you can have a Dan Wesson Bobtail or for about $750 you can get a Pointman Seven. They are true customs with everything you're looking for, although night sights are only on the Bobtail. The Taurus isn't even close in any way shape or form to the quality of the Dan Wesson line. I'm sure some Taurus fanatics will try to challenge that with much emotion though.

That was the movie my wife and I saw on our first date seven years ago. Great flick! I've heard good things about the taurus. I've heard bad things about Kimber. I've had three perfect Kimbers. If you have to have new, go with the Taurus. You can get a used Springfield, Kimber etc. hardly fired in your price range, if you shop. My Kimber Eclipse Target II has all the bells and whistles for $650. It still had blueing on the ramp and not a scratch anywhere. It has been flawless for over 2000 rounds. (I bought it used)

Budsgunshop.com has the Pointman 7 listed as out of stock but priced at $658. Thats sounds like a hell of a deal if the next batch that comes in is priced similarly.

Got my stainless steel PT1911 at Cabelas in Glendale on sale for $659.00. Monkeybear i doubt if that price will not go up my RZ10 was a little over $1000.00 with tax, in a side by side comparison between the two they are quite similar, i do like the trigger on the DW a little more than the Taurus

Short money, good trigger, pretty tight barrel lock down is the Rock Island Tactical. $450 at my local shop. OR you can get a pretty fine Springfield for $550 and put another $200 for a smith to polish the sear and throat of the barrel; $750 and you have a sweet gun.

The PT1911 is a very good firearm. I was looking at other 1911s and had been deliberately avoiding it because of the general rep that Taurus has, but after handling some Kimbers, Smiths, and Colts and talking with the clerk, they handed me the Taurus. It felt right, and when I got it home, I found out that it goes bang every time it's supposed to do so.

To begin with, I've NEVER seen a firearm actually priced at MSRP. Things might be different where you're from, but not even our local Cabella's (which has some pretty steep pricing standards, imo) hits that price. I had to pay shipping and a transfer fee for my PT1911 to get close to suggested retail. I see blued Taurus' for around $550, stainless models are running about $630 at the moment. I'm far from a "Taurus fanatic" but to deny that their 1911 is a good gun for the money seems short-sighted coming from someone who's apparently never fired one, especially when it meets the OPs criteria.

I never owned a Taurus(or a 1911 for that matter) but I will tell you my inquiries regarding their customer service has prety much led me to the position that their brand is one I'll pass one regardless of price

Yes I could find a stainless Taurus for under 600. Nowhere near that MSRP. Haven't dealt with the customer service but since the ones I've owned never had issues, I guess I don't care :D
