i have a mossberg 590 just wanna add a good light to the end of it my shotgun has a picatinny lazerlyte tri rail on the end i want a light weight water proof led flashlight to mount to it that is brighter then the sun and will blind any intruders looking for good quality here even if its a bit pricy something that aint just gonna break under heavy 3 inch magnum loads :/

any suggestions?

I went over all the bolt on light options for quite some time before finally just biting the bullet and buying a surefire foreend. I'm glad I did.

I was just about to ask about mounting a light then I saw this. Is there a good mount for a Remington shotgun just infront of the fore end? I don't want to replace the nice wood fore end with something and I plan on getting a weapon light for a handgun soon so I want something to mount it on my shotgun.

Same here. I coulda bought a Surefire fore end with the money I spent on lights, mounts, and remote tape switches looking for a less expensive alternative...

One thing I thought about was an M3 with a tapeswitch, but running the wire through a channel cut in the backside of the stock fore end - at that point I just ordered the surefire, so I don't know how well it would work or how challenging it would be.

I ripped the wires out somehow on my second or third outing with the remote tape switch, so I'm not a fan of exposed wires.

shot gun light

I got the surefire foreend and it is great, also added a laser max nextgen green pulsing laser on reciever rail. Its HD but yesterday it got 3 turkeys. Its a Mossy M590A1 Marine coat 18.5" 5+1

i love that lazer just not the pricetag :/ imma go with the tlr 1 it has everything i was looking for in a light so yah good show with the turkeys kutz should make a nice thanksgiving turkey dinner :p

Can't beat Surefire. I think there are some competitors now, but seven to ten years ago when I bought all my flashlights, there weren't. That I can't name one serious competitor of Surefire is a testament to their quality --I haven't had to replace one or shop for one since I started using them. I know they have a few though... Wait. FN makes a well built flashlight, saw it advertised in their flier. How it compares, no idea.

Surefire also has a TON of accessories, research and development, and a huge line. They make mini lights for reading maps up to weapon lights for armored vehicles. Biggest of all, the make real weapon lights.

See, if you choose incandescent, you NEED a shock isolated housing for the lamp. A regular light, like a maglite, won't cut it, particularly on high recoil weapons like a shotgun. That fine filament in a light bulb? In a house light bulb? Well, same thing in any incandescent bulb, and when it gets hot and rattled, it breaks easy.

The new LED ones, the Surefire ones with the funny looking lights anyway, don't have this problem. Shock isolation isn't as big an issue.

You do indeed get what you pay for when it comes to these lights. The X200 and similar models are great --well built, light, you can put on a remote switch, some come with lasers, they have a choice between a focused light and a broad beam, and the thing is made very well. I saw them hammer a nail with a working one attached to a pistol when they came out, and that went on their advertisements.

My wife even carries a Surefire light in her purse, and uses an LED one to pick up dog poo (the LED lights are MUCH more conservative on batteries). Unless we lose one, I can't see them ever getting replaced. When we say "they don't make 'em like they used to" well, Surefire makes 'em like they never did in the first place.

I can't say enough good about Surefire. Just like I carry my pistol everywhere I go, I carry my one cell Surefire light everywhere I go too. Only wish was that all mine were LED... Like I said, I got mine years ago before the LED ones were popular. Get LED, go Surefire, you won't be let down.

I put an X200 on a shotgun and use it on a pistol as well... Got it for HD in other words, and it is more flexible than the big ones we used on our rifles for entry work (and cheaper). They make something for everybody, their catalog is like a phone book almost.

Streamlight is a pretty big competitor to Surefire. Several years ago, I was on the Surefire bandwagon myself, but quickly jumed back off due to the poor quality of their rechargables. They didn't last long, got very hot, and I went back to my old Mag Light.

These days, I carry a Streamlight PT-1AA everywhere I go. High Lumen output on a long lasting LED all powered by a single AA battery. No heat to speak of, and I get about 5 hours off of one battery, give or take.

My HD shotgun has another Streamlight, this one taking 2 C123 batteries. I'll eventually get the PT-2AA, the big brother to my every day carry above.

Cost wise, Streamlight is a little less than the Surefire line. The weapon lights are simply awesome. I've had a couple TRL-1s, but sold them off with the intention of getting the one with laser and strobe. Sadly, other things came up and the funds went elsewhere.

All else being equal, for me, price is the deciding factor.

Question for those of you with the Surefire fore end. That's for a pump shotgun or is it only for a semi? Do the lights hold up to the repeated slamming back and forth that they would get on a pump gun? Thanks.

I dont know if I would trust any advice from you Murphy because it will all most likely go terribly wrong to the extreme! :D

The Surefire Forend use a LED from what I've handled and will be able to take the shock of working the action. They are built on the same principle as their hand held ones and some of those have point thingys (for lack of a better term) for hitting people.

You bet they hold up. I have had one on my 870 for over two years I am really happy with it. They are made for the following guns:

BENELLI M1 / M2
FN Tactical Police
Mossberg 500 with 14" barrel or 6 ¾" forend tube
Mossberg 590, or 500 with 7 ¾" forend tube
Remington 1100 and 11-87
Remington 870
Winchester 1300 / Defender / Super X Pump Defender

Went Surefire/Surefire on mine. been very happy for several years now.
