I just mounted a red dot 42mm scope to my mossberg HD shotgun. I "Sighted" it in by putting a L.E.D. flashlight in the chamber, shining it down the barrel, against the opposite wall in my house, and adjusted red dot to center of beam. This is until I get out and shoot to test the pattern.

Am I being silly by putting a red dot on a shotgun? My thoughts are that it makes it easy to aim in low light. It looks really cool to! :D

Nothing wrong with it but more than likely you will grow tired of it and remove it. Red dot sights do have their place on slug and turkey shotguns but they are not very useful on a home defense shotgun.

So now your hoping the battery will be working and you will remember to turn on the unit when the bad guys storm you home.
Keep it simple and add some motion sensing lights to the area the bad guys might be if you were to shoot them.
Take the red dot off and use it for some sort of shooting game. I like mine for Bullseye.

i put a 42mm red dot on a mossberg for a while, pulled it off after a few hundred rounds
use what works best for you and dont worry what others think about it
