Wife has given me the okay to get a new gun (expect for an AR-15:rolleyes: )

Right now I have a Beretta 92 and a Glock 26. I also have an old Marlin .22 repeater my grandfather gave me, but it does not get used much.

Not sure if I want a shotgun or another semi-auto.

If I went the semi-auto route, I'd like another 9mm or .380, that is thin and easy to conceal.

Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?

sportcat,
It all depends of how much ya wanna spend....And what ya want it for...Since I am waiting for my latest run to dry, I have some time to kill, so here goes...

Belt...full size
Springy XD-9
CZ-75 or P01
Springy Gov't 4-5in.

Belt...compact
CZ-rami 9mm
kel-tec P-11
Kahr 9

Pocket (large)
CZ-rami
kel-tec P-11
Kahr 9

Pocket (small)
KT P3AT
Seecamp 380
Naa Guardian 32/380 or .32naa

Split the difference between the .380 and the 9mm and get a Makarov. It's 9mm is about equidistant in power between the aforementioned calibers. You'll get a mighty fine pistol and you'll save a bunch of money to boot.

My experience with Makarovs is that shooting one handed one can usually achieve a 2" group at 15 yards (which isn't bad for me). They're nice, accurate, very reliable little pistols with a lot of bang for the buck. They'll usually come with at least 2 mags and and extra set of grips. Going rate here in OKC is $189.

You have the CCW covered ( G26) and a larger for HD/CD ( 92).
Marlin for plinking, small game, teaching new shooters and such.

I'd suggest shotgun. Keep it simple and reliable. Handles the tasks for HD/CD, hunting,training... even clays for learning and practice.

Remember what Misseldine said " good shooters are made - not born". Good shooters have more invested in ammo, ammo and ammo, than the guns themselves.

.22 Pistol!

I'm going to have to politely disagree with all the other posters and suggest you get a .22 pistol. I always take my Mark II to the range with me, and it is relaxing to shoot, and helps me learn sight alignment, trigger control, breathing etc much more cheaply. I would suggest either a Ruger or Browning, and use the extra cash for ammo. I waited about 10 years to finally get a .22 pistol, should have been the second one I bought (after HD is covered). Hope this helps.

Get a long gun. Maybe a bolt action .308, or at least a 10/22. If you must have another pistol, make it a 1911A1 or at least a MKII Target.

my .02

Starting to play with the idea of a Mossberg 500 with a Surefire fore-end light.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a good plan to me. Our Big 5 sporting goods has Mossberg 500 combo's on sale for $219. Get both yer bird hunting and HD barrels covered for 2 bills. Add the Surefire once you've gone through a whole bunch of shells in the daytime (money well spent), then go out and play at night if you still feel the need to spend more dough.

If you're looking for a home defense shotgun, maybe the Mossberg 590 is more fitting. It's basically the same gun, but with an eight-round tube on it. It or the 500 will have all kinds of accessories available, as will a Remington 870. Try to find one to try out, to make sure you like it and decide whether you prefer the Mossberg or the Remington. You almost certainly know someone who hase one or more of these guns.

Some guns that are on my mind lately:

Full size .45 - Kimber or Springfield are top contenders for me.

M1 carbine - I'd like true war-baby but cost and quality are a worry. The Kahr/Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine looks nice.

CX4 Storm - I like the look and feel of this pistol caliber carbine.

.38/.357 revolver - a must have for every collection

Bolt rifle in .308 or .30-06. Good for hunting.

Lever action rifle with a matching caliber revolver - something in .45 Colt.

As for a slim semi-auto, I just bought a Kahr E9 9mm. Single-stack, slim, 3.25 inch barrel, light.

A quality .22 pistol is also a must-have.

Considering the Storm (especially because I have a bunch of Beretta 92 mags), but the price, and how much use I'd get out of it are a concern.

I recently had a S&W 642, but really never felt comfortable with a revolver and only 5 shots.

Not a hunter.... at least not until the SHTF.

Kel-Tech sub-2000...

has sparked my interest as the next plinking gun. It seems pretty decent @ approx 300.00 NIB. find a review here: http://www.gunblast.com/Kel-Tec_Sub2000.htm a hell of a way to shoot cheap inexpensive 9mm and it takes glock mags so a 20 or 30 round clip isnt too far away, but if you dont already have a 12 guage an 870 would also be a good buy.

keltechsub2000

my boyfriend recently mentioned that he was interested in getting a kel-teech sub 2000 and after checking out that link, I think that i would definitely enjoy having it as our next plinking gun. :D

Dang, I thought your brother had a limit on the number of guns he could have....

here is what I think you should get:

.22 pistol
.22 rifle
shotgun
hunting rifle (for shtf)
