looking for ak

Yes I've handled and fired an Arsenal. It felt like every other AK I've handled. A little nicer than some, but nothing spectacular. Certainly no better than the Saiga that cost me only 250 bucks. The fact that Saiga can sell an AK for $250 and make money only tells me that the Arsenal prices are extremely inflated. Even with an extra $150 to $200 for the conversion and you are still well under the price of anything from Arsenal.

Were it not for our ridiculous importation laws, Saiga would probably be importing regular capacity pistol grip AKs for not much more than the price they are selling the neutered Saigas for now. Think about it, there really wouldn't be much that would increase the price over the neutered version that Saiga is importing now. Threading the barrel and installing a brake is about the only thing I can think of. Maybe a little extra cost for some nicer furniture.

Yeah, I'd agree the Saiga is probably a "better value" than an arsenal, but I'm partial to milled I guess.

It would be a wonderful world where the Saiga in original configuration could be imported and priced at less than $300. When you look at it that way, every other AK is way overpriced.

I want one in 308 myself.

Were it not for our ridiculous importation laws,

if it wasnt for rediculous laws we could probibly be buying a create of real AK's for the price of a saiga. and probibly Sten guns, PPSH41's, and all variety of pistols at fractions of that cost.

but the rediculous laws DO exist. and they make it dificult for hicapacity military like rifles to get here. because of those, supply is low, demand is high. that means all the US made ones, and those that do get in. can charge extra. and the few hi quality ones (saiga) have to sneak thier way in as "Sporting guns" (what ever the hell that means, 30-30 can kill ya just as quick) and then get converted. its just the way the games played. you pay bonus for a whole rifle than you do a converted one. shelby cobra, which costs more, and original or a kit car?

I'll take the Cobra kit car, and keep the difference I save in the bank or use it for other toys, but that's just me. ;)

I don't know about the supply being low for AKs. I see tons of them for sale on Gunbroker. They are everywhere.

I only care how well a gun runs, and whether I feel like I got enough value for my dollar. I still believe Arsenal is gouging people for their AKs. However, your expectations, opinions, and needs may vary. :)

Did I say they were junk? no
Did I tell the OP to avoid them? no
They are fun to shoot and very tough but they do not have the fit and finish that some rifles do
Unbind your panties guys

No one said you said they were junk. No one said you advised the OP to avoid them. Saying "they do not have the fit and finish that some rifles do" is different than what you originally said: "AK and quality shouldn't be in the same sentence." Anyway, that's why people commented on what you said. Unbind your panties.:D

hey stringer,i've owned norincos, polytecs, galils, valmets and a sig 550....and the only thing i terrorize are idiots.

I'm just joking :)

Actually I'm looking for an AK, but I cannot seem to find what I'm looking for. Id Like a new Arsenal AK with a milled receiver and NATO stock. Any suggestions? :D

Stringer, the choices now-a-days are definitely fewer than they were a few years ago. You may want to look out for an original SLR-95 or SLR-93 and convert it to a pistol-grip configuration with exactly the parts that you want to use, and buy them when funds permit.

Thanks. Honestly I wouldnt want to convert anything. Only because I dont have the time, and I would probably screw it up anyway. I would settle for a stamped Arsenal I suppose. The NATO stock seems to be whats most difficult to find. Lots of midgets running around I guess. ;)

Any1 know when the Arsenal SA M-7 SFK is coming? The website just says "coming soon". I have tried emailing them, but they never reply.

speaking of VEPR,geo, know where i can get some extra mags for mine?

If it is a .308 or .223, man, I have no idea. I have wondered what those folks who bought one in those calibers have been doing for mags. Robinson Arms is probably your best bet, if you can get them to help. My VEPR is in 7.62x39 so it uses regular AK mags.

It may be different than what you ultimately seek, but if a 7.62x39 AK, get the Polish underfolder from Lancaster. If you seek something in 556 Nato, I'd consider buying a Yugo underfolder kit, some magazines, a receiver, and have one built for you.

It is hands down the best AK variant I have ever held, shot, or owned. Nothing comes close.

i was looking at the arsenal sas m-7 underfolder too. problem is, very difficult to find. final OTD price would be almosy 1400. too much?

i really want a new arsenal. if underfolder, thats fine as long as its milled. if fixed, i would like milled with a NATO stock. why is this so tough to find!!! c'mon arsenal, make us some more stuff already! :fire:

Why are you stuck on owning a milled gun? Most AKs are stamped instead of milled and have a service life that would outlive most of us. Some of the finest AK type rifles, the Valmets were stamped and riveted guns. I used to own a Valmet. They make the Arsenal or Saiga guns look like something that was cobbled together and spray painted in a garage. To this day I regret selling that Valmet.

Arsenal discontinued the milled versions because they cost too much to manufacture and not enough people willing to pay the extra for a much heavier AK while stamped AKMs have been the norm worldwide since introduction.......

As far as the SAIGA low price......... amazing what ya can accomplish with extremally low wage sweatshop level labor, cheap materials and cut corners like presicion fitted components, base grade steel versus 4130/4140 steel all CNC Machined to much tighter specs.....

like they say ya get what ya pay for generally, Go visit Izhmash arsenal and checkout the Saiga factory as opposed to the military weapons factory (no they are not made side by side with the military guns the rest of the world can buy) its like buying your tools from Harbour freight or Buying em at Sears with the SAIGA line being the HF comparison....... much lower end now come back to the states and go visit Arsenal........ now ya just walked into the Snap on tools warehouse with all carefully hand fitted parts, all in house produced parts are minimum 4130 grade steel etc.......... with each rifle assembled by one builder, no mass produced assembly line production, one guy start to finish carefully fitting each component no belt sanders used to fit parts either as ya will see at SAIGA but instead CNC to start with and fine tuned with hones and quality machinist files

American made or Chinese swap meet special......... thats why the Century Yugos are such a good compromise if ya must buy a ready built AK rather than build your own..... the Yugo's used all milled components other than the reciever itself, the parts were fitted for each rifle originally so one built from an all matching kit will be a lil nicer, this compilation is then assembled by a pro AK builder who Century now farms their builds out to....... While not as nice as onea my custom hand fitted virgin kit built Yugo's they are also $1000 cheaper if cost is an issue for your budget..... mine ya get extreme quality Century ya get a great set of components assembled on the same NODAK reciever as the high dollar gun ya are just buying used parts as opposed to virgin new parts, assembled as opposed to precision hand fitted etc....

In Russia the SAIGA is ranked exactly the same way a WASR/STG2000 are ranked in Romania..... they got the real deal Military spec AKs sold to armies around the world (Romania supplies more AKM Pattern rifles globally since Yugoslavia went under than any other country for military grade rifles) on one side ya got the WASR/STG2000 Factory....... with the much lower paid workers (as is the case with SAIGA) that have little reason to do more than the bare minimum, ya have the lower end of the parts supply etc... result... cheap AKMs for American buyers who think they are all the same anyhow so..... just needs a conversion to "look" like a military spec gun......
