What other semi-auto would you trade your AR15 for?

I own a Smith & Wesson M&P AR15 and a SAR-1 AK47, and I have started to wonder what I would trade my AR15 for. I enjoy the AR15, but I've grown spoiled to the functionality of my AK and the minimal maintenance that goes along with it. I keep my firearms clean and ready to go, but I love the fact that I can grab the AK and not question whether the bcg is lubed well enough to function without a hiccup. I'm not looking to get into a debate about the AR15 vs AK47 because I know each rifle has both positive and negative attributes. What comparable semi-auto rifle would you trade your AR15 for? I've looked into M1As , FALs, and the Ruger Mini 14 Tactical, but I obviously do not know about all of the semi-autos on the market. Thanks for any suggestions.

Other than an AK? The AK remains my go to rifle. Undeniable reliability edge and caveman simple in design and maintenance requirements.

The Bushmaster/Remington ACR has impressed me greatly and the Gen II Sig 556 series has a lot to offer in a piston rifle design.

Kel-Tec SU16.

Piston driven action, slightly looser tolerances than the AR, lighter than the AR, and it takes standard AR magazines. Oh, and it folds up.

I traded a Rock River Entry Operator II and a RRA Pistol 7.5" for...

the IWI Tavor

DSA SA58 Carbine

While I'm sure that there will be those of you that will think I'm nuts! The Tavor is a gas piston operated semi-auto with a overall length that is only a 1-1/2" longer even with a 18" barrel then the RRA AR pistol with a 7-1/2" barrel and balance far better then either Rock Rivers.

I've got ARs from the early 601 series to an M4 and most of the models in between. Problem is you eventually begin to suffer from AR burn out. M1As, FALs, AKs, and HKs to name a few are already in the collection so now I'm moving into the more modern designs. Yesterday I managed to stumble across an FDE 16" Tavor that looked like it needed a home so it came back with me and an Aimpoint PRO optic I got for it as well. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but when it's even shorter (just a little over the minimum 26" legal length) than a 10.5" AR, that's getting pretty dang compact and yet still has the longer barrel for better ballistics. Other rifles on my short list are an AUG-A3, SCAR, ACR, FS2000 and PS90 but not necessarily in that order. Kind of just depends on which one I run across first next.

The Tavor is one of those designs that grows on you. I had one come in and through repetitive handling, I ended up keeping it for myself. Good ergos and shoulders very nicely.

Trade my AR for some other semi auto:confused:

Nah. I like the AR fine and IME a trade out for something else would be a lateral move. I like other semi autos just fine but I wouldn't let an AR go just to get one. Besides, most viable alternatives are more expensive and their merit is perhaps easily lost on my simple ignorance.

I really want to like the keltec su guns. I really do. They just feel flimsy in the hand and cost more than I think they are worth. Same with the mini, I just think it should be cheaper.

But just for something different, how about a galil? they weight a ton, but they're neat. or the benelli r1?
beretta arx100
the CZ 805 Bren A1 looks yummy if you could get it in america.

I would trade my AR for a bullpup like Steyr AUG, fs2000, FN scar, ar 10, and maybe m14/m1a. I definitely wouldn't trade it for an inferior mini 14 tho!

I'd trade pretty much any 2 ARs for one of these and a spare barrel and feel I came out the better of the deal.

If anything, I'm thinking of going the other way.
I'm seriously contemplating putting a rifle I have up for sale in the next few days to fund an AR lower and maybe a bolt action with a scope. I just think the combo of an AR carbine and a scoped bolt action .308 with a medium weight barrel will fill all my needs - hunting, recreation, defense, and maybe eventual competition - better than what I have now.

Personally, I think now is the time to buy AR's rather than trade or sell them. Prices are coming back down, lowers can be had for as little as $60-$70 for a PSA or Aero Precision, and parts are everywhere. If nothing else, I think everyone should buy a good stripped lower now just to have it around, even if you don't build anything on it for another 5 years.

Possibly a Tavor or a FN SCAR. Other than that, nothing I can think of.

I sold a Ruger Mini-14 to get my AR.
