OK, finally got off my fat lazy butt and got the group photo.

From back to front, Anschütz 2013/690 2313, Walther KK300, Feinwerkbau 2700, and threw in the Russian, a CM-2.

HKSW......

You have more money in those few rifles then many folks have in entire collections. What a spectacular set of rifles that are so far out of my shooting ability it isn't even funny.

Recently bought a CZ-452 American (made in Czech Republic). Paid $328 and installed a $14 Brooks trigger kit. It shoots 5/16 at 50 yards. I love it.

An accurate rifle is not just one that has the capacity for tight groups but one that holds it's zero. Once you eliminate non-threaded barrels you have a short list.

10/22

Whats the best groups with the ruger ? Has anyone tried out the carbon fibre barrel ? I was thinking of getting one just curious...........Rick

The CM-2 isn't too bad considering it was under $700 (IIRC, I'll have to check when I get home). Like most Russian stuff, it is incredibly rough around the edges. You can tell that a LOT of work on the gun was done by hand. The rear sight itself looks like the suare holes were cut but a saw and file. The stipling is all hand as there is no pattern to them. But, as expected, built like a tank. I've only taken it out twice and had no problems staying under 1" at 50 yds using the iron sights and Wolf ME. (First time out, though, was a short one and the rear sight came loose before I knew it. The rear clamps down by knurled knobs.)

IMO, an OK starter silhouette or position gun. No where near the build refinement of an Anschütz 54:18 MSR. I should have taken a picture of that with the CM-2 for comparison instead.

Try and get your hands on an older CZ from when it was still Brno. Specifically a Model 2.

Slightly better than the current ones...

You can still find some great bargains in Remington bolt .22 rifles at the used gun rack, or pawn shops.
My 50 year old Remington Model 541T will shoot cloverleaf groups at 50 yards, and around an inch at 100 yards.
I bought it used, for $50.

Don't buy a carbon fiber barrel if you want top accuracy.

My Adams & Bennett 18" blued 10/22 will shoot almost as good as my CZ-452 Special.

Almost.

Jay, if you're looking for a good gun without spending a lot of money on it, the Savage bolt guns can be tackdrivers. Their heavy barrel accu-trigger models are surprisingly accurate. They're not up to Anschutz or Suhl accuracy standards, but the one I bought outshoots my custom barreled 10/22 that I spent $1200 on. It instantly became my favorite rimfire. Clipping 3/4 of a coil off the accu-trigger adjustment spring and a few minutes of careful stoning turned out a crisp, 1lb trigger with no creep. The trigger was exceptional out of the box though.

Corrrection, the CM-2 ran me $475.

My Biathlon 7-2 Basic ran $375. The shortcomings of this gun is that on occasion, the plastic cover of the bolt handle can come off over time/use. A simple matter of gluing it back to its stud (which goes almost the entire length on the inside of the plastic piece). Also it only comes with 1 - 5 round and 1 - 10 round mag. Mags are a bit hard to come by at this time. They look cheap too but like Russian stuff, built like tanks.

Accuracy depends on rifle quality and ammo.

I used to shoot "Siluetas Metalicas" here in México. We shoot stell pigeons at 150 meters, so accuracy and quality of ammo are special factors. ELEY TENEX is the best I know, and ANSCHUTZ the most used rifles by competitors.
I own two Anschutz and I'm more than pleased with their accuracy, the triger is important, they have excellent trigers.
Other excellent rifles are BRNO, Walther, Winchester 52.
I tried a new CZ 22 bolt action last week, it has a sintetic bleck stock and is Stainless, is not expensive, but I don't know if it's available in the USA.

I've had two CZ 452's one in .22 and the other in .17m2 -- excellent shooters, well made, nice for targets or hunting. Can be had for about $330. From there, its a good sized step up to Anschutz, the top of the heap.
