Need a new rear sight pivot pin. Going to check if lowes if they have any 1/16 roll pins close in length. Otherwise I see a guy on ebay has them $14 ... seemed pricey for 1 pin. Any leads are appreciated thanks in advance.

I think you are better of buying the correct part. Sometimes you can't though. In those cases sometimes a "numbered/wire size" drill bit will work. McMaster Carr is another good source.

I ordered the pin from numrich gun parts. It came to about 12.50 with shipping. I buggered up the hole on the gun a bit. Appears the guy before me bent the pin. I see now people do that so it doesn't move around. Well this guy had it in there really good and bent. Never had an issue like this before. I'd post a pic but I lost the pin somehow... anyways thank you guys for the help. Maybe post up a pic after I clean it up and polish out my hillbilly work.

I usually play stupid and tell Ruger that I lost the pin, or it walked out. They’re great about sending out parts for free or a small fee, especially if you’re nice.

My experience with Ruger is that sometimes if you call them and tell them you need a little part like that, they will send it to you at no cost. I broke a tiny screw on a rear sight some years ago. Called them and admitted fault and asked to buy one. They sent me a couple for free.

Ace Hardware has roll pins (tension pins) in their bins. Beut expect to pay about .79 (seventy nine cents) for one. These are so hand for gu repair that I keep an assortment in my parts box.

I gotcha lowes and tractor supply didn't carry small enough. Didn't think to try ace.

The pivot pin is solid. You can look for some thin rod stock, pick one that's the right diameter and then cut a section that's the proper length. Most any hardware store has a section with a selection of rod stock--usually some brass, some stainless steel, etc.

I usually put a very slight bend in those pins as they sometimes tend to walk out with shooting.

Using a split tension pin, or roll pin, eliminates the need to bend the pin. Not factory correct, of course, but more practical.

Put the rear sight back on and... put a leupold 2x scope on it. Was going to swap the sights with a GP100 but after all this trouble put on a scope ... and found original pin... so now I have 50 1/16th tension pins from Amazon... and a pin still on the way from numrich. I may however use one of the tension pins as I straightened the OG pin and its pretty loose now... any how good problems to have. Thanks again for the replies guys.

My last shot at 25 yards. Speer handgun hunters. I bought before all these crazy times. Were probably $25 a box, give or take, 5 or so years ago. Not sure what they are going for now. I haven't seen them around in years either. We're ready to whack a deer if I get the opportunity. Thanks again for the replies.
