I am looking to buy a Glock 19 because if its light weight, durability and parts availability; is there another gun comparable to the Glock 19 that would save me $$. Also would hope that it could shoot +P ammo.

Thanks for your advice

I doubt you'll find anything less expensive that will really compare to a G19. Your best bet would be to pick up a used G19 (on here, GunBroker.com or AR15.com) if you want to save a few bucks.

Next best would be a used G19.

That said, there seems to be a lot of interest in the Taurus 709 slim. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach to that one.

In my opinion there is nothing cheaper and comparable to the Glock 19. The M&P9c, SIG 2022, and FNP9 come to mind as comparable pistols but their prices are also comparable.

as far as cost wise the glock is very very reasonably priced for what you get. a true value. as far as something that will run like a glock, look at either a m&p or an xd and you will be happy with the reliability, accuracy and shootability of any and all of them.

they can all shoot +p

Save your money and buy a Glock 19, new or used.

Sigma will not live up to the expectations of someone who has had Glocks.

XDs, I am told, are fine guns, but the tinkerer in me is disappointed that there are no aftermarket parts available and Springfield is very niggardly about shipping spare parts.

My M&P is a fine gun, but the Glock beats it on value.

In my experience, a good Taurus is a good gun, but a bad taurus is a nightmare when it comes to getting parts or repairs. Customer service is not the strong suit of that company. I will never have another one in my safe after it took over a year for Taurus to ship a spare part to my gunplumber.

Buy the glock, you will still be happy 20 years from now.

A used glock isn't much cheaper than a new glock. I bought my G19 last month for $490 w/ 2 mags; at the gun show yesterday they wanted ~$450 for a used one.

I recently sold a G19 because it just did not feel right. No matter how much I tried to warm up to the pistol I just could not get use to the trigger. I ended up with a light weight CZ75 PCR and it fits like a glove. Accuracy is excellent and it handles the Gold Dot 124gr JHP +P just fine. The pistol holds 14 rounds and is built like a tank.

I like the fact that with a round chambered I can use the decocker to drop the hammer down safely into double action mode. If need be you can easily pull the hammer back for an initial single action shot. The CZ75 PCR just feels like it is a close relative to my favorite 1911 pattern pistols.

I"ll probably get flamed for this but since I'm not personally an owner any longer of a 9mm handgun or even many autos, I'll say it anyway. The best bang for the buck in 9mm is the vastly under-rated Ruger P95. People say it's big but its dimensions compare favorably to a Glock side by side. It has the shorter barrel of a Glock 19 with, admittedly, the longer butt of a Glock 17. It is as reliable as a timex and as tough as a brick and costs probably well over one hundred dollars less than a Glock 19. You may pick something else, but you should at least consider one before choosing. If your purpose is a reliable tool to deliver 15+1 rounds of 9mm+P, you could do a lot worse.

I own a Glock 19 ,Sigma 9mm and Ruger P95.The Glock wins hand down for a carry gun.Accurate and well built. The Ruger is awsome but kinda bulky to carry. The Sigma is a great truck gun IMHO but not near the quality of the Glock you can just feel the difference. All 3 function great and accurate.

Used Glock 19 or S&W M&P series. Don't be afraid of buying lightly used...you can get a killer deal if you look carefully.

I shot a Taurus Millenium Pro for a while that was comparable in size to a G19...actually it was quite a bit thinner and had better ergonomics too. I liked the gun, but it was wearing out quickly.

I would prefer an XD or M&P over the Glock, but either way I would hold out and save up the extra money. When you buy a Sigma or Taurus junk you'll end up wanting the XD/Glock/MP anyway, and the Sigma/Taurus won't hold its value worth crap.

*edit*
The Sig P225 is a quality pistol available in good condition for around $350. It is, however, single stack and hammer-fired, and the trigger isn't as nice as some of the newer SIGs, but you'll be happier with it than a budget pistol.

You haven't looked hard enough. Quality used Glocks can be had for ~$300.

Oh yeah, Glock has that Homeland Security discount you just have to find a participationg dealer. Firefighters, EMTs, Military, and Police qualify. You can get a brand new Glock 19, 17, 22, or 23 with 3 mags for 389 NEW plus tax.

STEYR M9-A1 - any of the others aren't worth it, just save for the G19.

Don't know if they will handle +p though :neener:

That Xd sure looks ugly next to the PCR, or the PCR sure looks good next to the Xd. I wanted a compact 9mm and it was between the Glock G19 and the CZ PCR, the PCR was my choice (I have a G17 and G34), the CZ goes everywhere with me, CZ baby!
