Lou Dobbs poll about deadly force

I understand what you are saying jakemccoy but the bottom line is good sense has to be used.

No matter how or when force could possibly be called for, you have to evaluate the situation and take what appears to be the best actions.
What I do here out of town would be quite a bit different from what I would do in a city neighborhood.

Every situation would be different.

In this case the law allows a Texan to protect a neighbor's place as his own. That doesn't mean you HAVE to respond to the fullest extent of the law, but (within limits) you can do what you need to.
Even if what you need to do is shoot the BG or just try and get a license plate number.

In many/most places, shooting an unarmed person is going to get you a certain amount of hot water. This is, IMO, often deserved -- especially if that unarmed person took your bullets in his back as he runs away, even with your hard-earned TV.

Maybe my years in California have brainwashed me, but I happen to think shooting someone for stealing is indefensible. And I'd be willing to bet that most if not all of you are blowing smoke on this one. In real life, decent men don't shoot people unless they have no choice, big talk on the internet notwithstanding.
