Lovely treatment at Wal*Mart tonight

Try getting to know the "Joe" behindthe counter. If he's not interested in Sporting Goods but is stuck there, yeah, you might not get the best service. It's unfortunate, and I wish all Wal-Mart Associates gave 1/10th the effort the few of us good ones do. (Ironically, I work as a gunsmith in my second job, have worked gun counters before, and yet Wally World puts me in the soup aisle every night! (I know my soup and ramen noodles dang good as a result, too! :) ) Heck, I get the photo ID and rilfe or pistol treatment every time and I work there. Just for giggles, I tell the old blue-haired cashiers it's for a machine gun. (I wish!) It's good cheap fun. Having done some back-up cashiering, I know that you will lose that crappy paying job if you DON'T ask those questions. Some of the people there actually do need those jobs, so they comply. (I'm just waiting 'till my kids are old enough to stay home and not kill each other or turn the house into a shambles,so can go get a real day job.)

I've traveled the country (usa) and have gotten pretty good service by the folks at the Wal-Marts I've gone to. The thing is all about courtesy, a two way street. You walk into the location and can get just about anything you need as a general rule. So maybe a lot of this bad mouthing is just others who have business's and they are playing the rest of you like a drum:what:

Whats funny for about 3% of the country and the way they look through rose colored glasses is not fitting for the guy or girl who has to listen to the same old bs day in and day out and still remain friendly ;) Sort of like here, and reading the same old crap over and over:cuss:

Reading this thread and others indicating ammo prices on the rise, I just called my local Walmart and spoke with what sounded like a young guy in the firearms dept. I inquired about prices and availability of two specific loadings of Federal .22 ammo. He was both cheerful and willing to help out. After getting paper and pencil, he took down the appropriate info, then asked me if perhaps I had boxes of the ammo nearby so that he could have the upc numbers to make sure of the exact stuff I want. I did, gave him the numbers, and he was back to me within a minute. He told me "No sir, I don't have either of those onhand, but I do have several other types. My manager isn't here right now, and won't be back until Monday morning. If you wanna call back then and talk to him, I'm pretty sure he can order these". I then asked him what I'd need to do to buy them, if I came in after work at about 2 am. He said that I'd probably have to get someone to page the sporting goods person on duty to retrieve them, but no, late night would be no problem. So I thanked him for his help. He likewise thanked me "sir", and wished me a good evening.
I dunno, I was pretty impressed. I guess I'll go in tomorrow and see what they have in stock and see how it works out in person.
I don't know about you folks, but I'm always friendly and polite with the people that wait on me. I always start with "Hi,..." say yes or no Ma'am (or Sir), regardless of their age, and if I tried really hard to remember, I'll bet I could count fewer than 5 times that I've ever been disrespected or treated rudely in a retail store (or restaraunt setting)... and I don't mean just at Walmart, I mean anywhere.

Go to Farm & Fleet, if you have one. The ammo is out on the counter, not locked up. You put it in your cart next to your big bag of Chex Mix and take it to the checkout. Their prices are as good or better than Wal-Mart and they don't look at you funny, either.

Blackbeard, we have a Mill's Fleet/Farm here, but I no longer go to them for ammo since they decided to require my ID to buy ammo... they even told me that "It's federal law", which must clearly be BS, or every other ammo outlet around here is in violation. The nice checkout lady wouldn't sell to me without it, so I politely asked her to set the ammo off to the side, and I'd pay for everything else.
