M-16 by Balimoy??

I just got issued an M-16A2 from Balimoy, Venice, Fla. Anybody ever heard of them? It's finished just like the FN ones we all have, only the trigger is less good, and the barrel is 1/8 vice 1/7 like the others.
Ideas, info?

I was at the zero range before IWQ and I was helping one of our HHC's
cooks shoot (guy couldn't get a group tighter than 6") and I noticed his
M16A2 wasn't a Colt or an FN, it was made by some company that looked
like it said "BALMOV MFG GROUP, FLORDIA" on the lower, no roll mark,
just numbers, very generic looking.

Anybody know anything about these M16A2's?

shop in Venice, FL during the 70's. It was bought by DSE Inc. in 1979.
the owner, Dae Shin of So Korea, then moved the shop to Tampa,FL in 1987
and formed DSE,Inc. as a holding company in 1992.

Today DSE, Inc. supplies 40mm grenades to the US military.

Some various findings:

7,000,000-7,429,766 (approximate) [serial number range]
1988-2003
US Property marked FN M16A2. There are also Balimoy M16A1 lowers restamped A2 in this serial number range. These were used as replacement parts by Anniston.

During the 90's Anniston frequently utilized new lower receivers manufactured by Balimoy to meet production schedules when they did not have sufficient numbers of serviceable receivers on hand for the A1 to A2 conversion/rebuild program.

Since Balimoy never produced complete weapons and therefore have no name brand recognition, I believe these receivers are often mistaken by Soldiers to be "Bushmaster" rifles. These receivers were initially produced with A1/AUTO markings that were overstamped A2/BURST the same as older A1 receivers going through the process. By now I'm sure it is "plausible" some could have been rebuilt into M4's same as a FN.

Not following you here, but yes soldiers do rebuild rifles. The best rebuilds I have seen were done by Anniston Army Depot and are stamped ANAD.

Balimoy produced replacement receivers for A2s a while back. Some probably started out as A1s as well and have been rebuilt a few times. The 1/8 barrel is weird, however.

Weird, I've lived here my entire life and never heard the name before even once. It looks like they employ quite a few people...wonder what exactly they're making these days besides dummy grenades.
