Just out of curiosity, how does the M&P CORE trigger compare with the standard M&P? I like the idea of the CORE, but I'm curious if I'd need the Apex kit to make it usable without grimacing.

My understanding is that it comes from their "custom shop," like the PRO, offering a lighter and sharper trigger with a full reset.

Old man eyes: duty pistol....

I'm considering buying a S&W CORE .40S&W long slide(L) then adding a Trijicon RMR duel sight for security details, EP work(uniformed).
I'm not sure how much longer my tired old eyes will be sharp so a CORE/RMR set up appeals to me, ;) .
I might use the pistol in 9x19mm for armed security work then carry it as a vehicle defense gun with a after market .357sig caliber barrel.
It's good to know the S&W CORE pistols have a re-worked M&P trigger.

How about the grittiness and sponginess compared with the regular M&P? I remember it feeling like I was pulling the trigger across sandpaper into a sponge, and there were so many catches and clicks I couldn't determine when it reset. Bout the AEK and firing with snap caps went to a sharp click on pull and a sharp click on reset.

So is the stock CORE trigger like the AEK in that regard? Or is it like walking across the floor in a haunted mansion like the original.

Yes the one my friend has is better than a plain model, but still gritty.

No gun is perfect, I think the M&P is close.

The M&P is one of the better ones I will agree. For me, the Walther and HK striker guns are closest to perfect. Only things they are missing is factory RDS readiness and a capacity of 17 rounds to match up with the rest of the duty 9s (I consider the Caracal and XDm outliers here).
