Just curious what is the most common method is within the group
Not a shield, but I use the sear disconnect on all three m&p pistols as two have magazine safeties. We treat them all as if they didn't.

I used method one before I gave my Shield to a long time buddy, but I don't see it as an issue either way.

I've never not used the lever and was unaware there was any other method. My M&P is my only striker-fired gun, so I'm not carrying over some other habit-base.

I pull the trigger. No reason not to. Your pulling the slide back to flip the take-down lever anyway, so you are also checking for safe. Useless feature

With the M&P's, I use the sear deactivation lever. It fits nicely in the end of my ball point pen with the tip retracted so the "appropriate tool" is always close at hand.

But, I have no safety issue with pulling the trigger on my Glocks to disassemble them. You have to check to make sure the gun is unloaded and the magazine removed before any other disassembly action is done so what difference does it make.

With the S&W lever, once switched, it stays so disassemble can continue without backtracking steps. With the Glocks, sometimes I do not get the slide locks moved enough to release the slide and the trigger gets re-set. I have to then pull the trigger again and start over.

I pull the trigger on mine... Most other poly semiautos carried by millions of civilians, L.E., and military require you do the same.... I don't believe it's necessary to mess with the lever...

If the gun has a magazine safety, you must use the lever. Otherwise the trigger does not move the sear.

Ah... Must be an non standard M&P from MA? With normal M&Ps, It's not necessary IMHO.

M&P’s, at least gen 1’s, came in both mag-disconnect and no-mag-disconnect flavors. Just as they came both with and without external thumb safeties. They were ALL standard.

Actually, mine did come from MA, but they were an option like the external safety. MA did require the the mag safety. I no longer live in MA, (I escaped), but I still like the pistol.

As ATLDave just said.... D'oh
