I have an M&P40 and like it but will be switching to 9mm and am pretty interested in the FNS9 as well. There are a few brief comparisons online but are all a least a few years old. I was wondering if now that the fns has a bit longer track record there is anything else to tell?

Both will be kept pretty much stock except for a possible sight change on either and an apex kit and stipple job (or talon grips) on the m&p so aftermarket support isnt really an issue.

I will try to get to a rental range to shoot the fns but i am looking for opinions from those who have or have shot both and hear about which they liked more and why.

I also like the VP9 but am not to keen on the magazine release. I would probably pick one up if they changed that though.

I have a couple glocks but I really dont like the grip angle or the feel with the grip force adapter.

Reliability and accuracy are the most important things to me followed by felt recoil and overall feel.

Thanks for the input.

Stock FNS9 vs stock standard M&P I prefer the FNS. Takes a few rounds for the trigger to loosen up though. With a full complement of Apex parts the M&P will have a much better trigger. Honestly, I don't notice much difference in felt recoil between any full size polymer 9mm handgun.

That being said, I prefer the Sig P320, the Walther PPQ and the HK VP9 over either of those guns if you have options. My time with the VP9 has been particularly impressive. Might be worth learning the paddle release for.

I have both, a M&P 9 full size and a FNS 9 full size. To me, the FNS is better. It fits my hand better, nice grip tecture, totally ambi controls, has better sights, a better stock trigger and mine has the thumb safety. My FNS 9 came with the Trijicon night sights. I like both guns but I give the edge to the FNS. I shoot it in our IDPA matches and the wife shoots the M&P 9 with the small backstap installed. You won't really go wrong with either.

I really like the FNS line. I've got a full size .40, and the 40c may be the best shooting pistol I own. I like them enough that I have gotten rid of all my other striker fired guns except my Nano for times when I can't carry the FNS but want more gun than a pocket .380.

I think the FNH pistols are criminally underrated. Robust, accurate American made guns that can be had for under 5 bills?...and, imho, they are some of the most handsomely mean-looking pistols.

I prefer the feel and trigger of the FNS of the two you listed.

The VP9 I like better than either though. The ethos and trigger are just superior in my opinion, and when you get used to the paddle mag release, it works just as well as a button.

Good luck.
