M44 owners: What recoil pad do you use?

I use a slip-on Limbsaver on my 91/30 and it helps a lot. Softens recoil and lengthens the LOP a bit. Can't remember if it's a small or medium but I think either will work. Get which ever one is thicker for the longer LOP.

Actually, that's the exact one I have. I couldn't remember its name for the life of me. It fits just about everything and I just slip it off one and onto the next. It's totally dorky looking but works great.

I have a Butler Creek slip-on for my M-44.

<$10, but really makes a difference. Now I can shot about 25-30 rounds before stopping.

None. Never saw the point. The M44 weighs as much or more than a full size 91/30, so the felt recoil has more to do with your brain flinching from the big fireball.

I have never used a butt pad on any of my Mosins... I think I am going to take a picture of the bruises 100 rnds of polish heavy ball leaves and have them blown up poster size for my loading room.

I use the size "small" Pachmayr slip-on, which can be found everywhere. I initially used the size "medium", but it was a loose fit and tended to move around.

Quit being a wuss. Just wear an extra sweatshirt when you take it to the range. :neener:

I have heard the "imagined recoil" argument several times.
I say this every time I hear it.

I CANNOT imagine bruises onto my shoulder from a long day of shooting.
They are never there when I shoot my 91/30.
But lo and behold, after 50-60 rounds of m44, there they are.
Get a pad, it is worth the money for all that recoil you are just going to imagine is there.

Here's something weird.

I've been using a Limbsaver on my M38. Still massive recoil, couldn't fire more than about 10 before giving up.

The last range trip I decided to try it without the pad, to my surprise it was more comfortable to shoot! Not sure why. Maybe it fits better that way?

Besides, how are you ever going to use the melee attack feature?:p

Trex arms? haha
just kidding.
If the pad and stock are too long for you, rolling your shoulder back to reach properly could make it ride the joint and not the meat, I can see how that could happen. That's why I like beartooth, selectable thicknesses in one package.

That is the path to enlightenment. One cannot claim manhood until their shoulder bears evidence in the form of the red spiderweb.

I think I have busted every capillary in my shoulder with that thing.

100 rds? You're either a very tough guy or a very slow learner LOL. Sorry, twenty is about my limit.
