M9 and US Service Pistols

Contrary to what the Glock fanboys will tell it is perfectly fine to own/enjoy other pistols. No need to "switch". Variety is the spice of life! lol

Not a fanboy, just that after owning everything under the sun, the Glock is what I shoot best. The Beretta may feel better, but I shoot the Glock better.

I like the Beretta 92FS and the M9 just fine, and have owned a 92FS for about two years. I CC it regularly, but then again I'm in WA state where open carrying and blatantly 'printing' is perfectly legal.

All the complaints I've heard about the M9 centered around the 9mm round itself, not the pistol. A lot of people seem to think we should still be using the 45 ACP.

I also own a 1911 and love that pistol to death, but it's more expensive to shoot and the dang thing always sticks me in the side while I'm CCing it.

i have owned two beretta M9s and a px4 sub,all were excellent pistols. i prefer glock for carry but beretta makes world class, tough, reliable firearms....i am a fan. i group beretta with glock, sig and hk no problem at all. i only sold the 92s because i went all glock,i still might buy another 92 if i come across a beat up trade in.

I have been kayaking and hiking with him on many trips and he told me the Beretta was what he used as a side arm,...
The Beretta is not a bad gun by any means, but IMHO it is way too big and bulky to take hiking...especially for a 9mm pistol.
In fact, the Beretta is one of the bulkiest 9mm pistols one can buy.

Easy.

in my own humble opinion, a 9mm is too little to take hiking. maybe not kayaking but when I'm out in the bush (especially when I'm in grizz territory) I never go out without my XDM45(only because that's the biggest handgun I own) and if I can I "steal" my brothers 480

Like most gear, the choice is biased by where you will be hiking.
Obviously you have bears to worry about in your location.
But in my specific location of NC there are no threats that should require more than the 9mm.
As a kid I went hiking with nothing more defensive than a pocket-knife and a walking stick.

Threats in my area...

Humans, hornets, wasps, yellow-jackets, copperheads, water mocs, rattlesnakes, and the occasional stray/wild dog.

Our hiking is in the East and not in grizzly country. The Beretta on a waist strap is no big deal when hiking. In that case, weight becomes more of an issue.

First gun issued to me was a Beretta 92. Great gun, I could reach out and touch em pretty far with that bad boy. I always liked the smooth rack of the slide with no tilt and consistent trigger pull travel. First DA shot always seemed more accurate than the follow up SA shots, though...Odd.

good point, just load up some CCI shot shells in the M9 and enjoy the weekend! I'd buy that for a dollar
