Had a dream last night that I was in a mall lockdown. An army swat team of at least 20 guys in full gear rapidly invaded the mall, locked it down, and were passing everyone out through a metal detector, checking ID, too. What to do in such a scenario if you are ccw? After I woke up (and couldn't go back to sleep) I figured you have two choices. 1) Keep your weapon and proffer your permit; 2) ditch your weapon somewhere before your turn comes. Which would you do? I'm thinking this scenario could very easily become a reality if someone calls in a terrorist threat, bomb threat, etc.

Mall...lockdown?

I can imagine evacuating a mall, but a mall lockdown? I just couldn't see it happening, especially since if they barracaded the emergency doors it could, AFAIK, end up for some serious civil liabilities.

I would ask to speak to the person in charge before I ever got to the metal detector. Show my permit and declare that I was armed.
I'm within my legal rights to be where I am and armed so I have nothing to worry about, right? :uhoh:

BUT, luckily, I will never find myself in this predicament since all malls are on my list of nevergoes.

I'm a pessimist

I figure if Army SWAT has locked down the mall, they are looking for somebody with a weapon or a bomb. Even if you show your permit, if you have a ccw, you are probably going to be cuffed and interrogated, and your weapon taken away for who knows how long. I think I might rather ditch the ccw and avoid the hassle. Hope it never happens.

Worst possible choice. You stay in control of your ccw 100% of the time. Period. :banghead:

If it gets taken by authorities then so be it. If you ditch it then you have basically thrown it away and you no longer have control of where it ends up.

Hey mom, look what that guy just threw away. BANG! Think about it.

IF IT is all a dream

you blast your way out with your automatic revolver, and save
Alicia Keyes from the zombies and she rewards you with a big kiss.:D

How would they manage a panicky crowd trying to evacuate if, for example, someone pulled a fire alarm during this "lockdown?" (plus, in most malls I've been to, it would take a lot more than 20 guys to seal all the exits.)

Whatever it was you had for dinner, don't do that again.
But seriously, every single store has a back door, and fire escapes run all over the place. Unless they could remotely lock every door in the place from being opened from the inside, (HUGE fire code violation), then you will have a way out. Now, whether or not the parking lot is cordoned with police is another story...
