Here are 2 reaons not to interfer with a fight, unless of course you have your firearm at the ready.

Man killed after breaking up fight; shooting caught on tape

KANSAS CITY, Mo. For the second time in a month, a Kansas City-area resident has died from injuries suffered after trying to aid a beating victim.

Police say they've received little information even though a home video of the shooting death of Selvin Cano was aired today on local television.

Cano was killed Tuesday -- his 26th birthday -- after he ran into a crowd watching as at least four men stomped and beat another man who was on the ground. At one point in the video taken by a friend of Cano's, a man is seen stepping back, firing a gun and hitting Cano. Police say Cano was shot three times.

Another man died on June eighth from injuries he suffered on May 20th while coming to the aid of a woman who had her purse snatched.

Supposing you're personal opinion leans against non-interference, would the best course of action be to simply draw your pistol and then get their attention, and shoot the first guy who draws on you?

As for interfering in the purse-snatching, that one is hazier, not worth dieing over. But a guy being pummeled on the ground would elicit more sympathy, from me.

What are the laws in Kansas City? MO. Ive been there and ended up lost in some sketchy places on foot late at night and even had some guy pull a knife on me, there are some really tough areas, but I thought most places allow deadly force even if you are defending someone elses life, and watching someone get stomped into the ground by a group of guys would more than likely constitute protecting someones life.

Sad. Looks like a good man died trying to save the life of another.

RIP.

MO allows deadly force in defense of another.

The only bugaboo might be if no deadly weapon was visible on the assailants. To my knowledge, MO is rather vague about disparity of force reaching the definition of lethal force.

Four agsinst one, with the four stomping the one while he's on the ground, sounds a lot like "disparity of force" to me.

I saw this video clip on the news yesterday. It didn't look like a case of a good guy happening upon a beating and trying to break it up. It looked more like a gang fight. The one that got shot went to his car to retrieve a knife and ran at the crowd wildly swinging the blade. One guy stepped back and fired once. There was a huge muzzle blast and a stampede as people ran for their cars to hightail it away. With the poor quality of the video and the darkness, I couldn't see if the shootee went down. I didn't catch if there was mention of a caliber. After the melee cleared up, the guy shot was seen walking toward his car holding his midsection. He made it to the hospital where he died.

Looks like a case of a dumbash dying for his homey.

What was instructive for me was that this guy was shot in COM at least once and according to this story three times and still ambulatory. Don't expect the bad guy to stop with one or three or any number of shots. Shoot him 'til he drops.
