I guy locally is selling his marlin 30/30 lever gun, I don't know anything about lever guns just kinda want one, he is asking $225 for it, it looks in good shape, he said he bought it new in 1996 and it has a low round count, are these good guns and is the price a good deal? Thanks in advance!!

Depends on the model. For a 336C with walnut stocks that is about $100 less than they typically sell for. At that price it is probably a 336W with cheap hardwood stocks. If so I'd prsonally wait on a 336C, but believe that is probably a fair price. More than I'd pay for one with the cheap wood, but that seems to be the going price for them.

Even if it has birch stocks, still get it. Its a pre-Remington Marlin. They just don't make'em like that anymore. $300 would be a great deal, so you are getting a super-great deal.

That is all.

I shot a buddies yesterday. We busted some clay pigeons on the 100 yard berm. Very nice guns, and an excellent price.

Price seems ok,but you need to get more information about that Marlin.
Condition is everything when buying . Do some more leg-work on the net.
You need to understand what`s what before information passed on to you makes any sense.

Well I left the guy a message and I'm waiting for a response, thanks for all the fast replies, I'll keep everyone posted!

Harder and harder to find "pre-move" Marlins. Excellent rifle, regardless of stock type. Well worth the money. As an all-around gun, hard to beat.

go over it with a fine tooth comb, check the bore with a light and cycle some ammo and get an agreement to refund it if it doesnt run right. Offer your drivers license first and insist he give you his to complete the transaction. They are $350 new at wal mart so you are saving $150 ish but if you have to send it to the smith for an extractor or firing pin you are out the savings. Check the loading gate to get an idea how many rounds have been fed through it. If you bought it used from a shop it would be about $300

Marlin 30/30

JSpear: You will kick your self if you let the Marlin 30/30 go by for $ 225.00. Everybody needs a good Marlin lever gun. Made in 1996 it will bd a real Marlin with JM on the barrel. My Son and I have several Marlin Lever guns and are real fans and for what it is worth we both like the Marlins better than our Winchesters. We have never had a problem with any of them, and I bought my first Marlin in 1963 and I still have it and still hunt with it. I look at a 30/30 Marlin as a 125 to 200 yd rifle depending on your eyes. But with the new Hornaday Leverevolution 160 gr ammo you can add some distance to that. I have hunted quite a bit with a Marlin 30/30 and they are real joy to carry, they point well, and I have never known of a Marlin not shooting well. I have hunted deer, hogs, coyotes, and feral dogs. And never felt under gunned or limited in any other way with this rifle. GOOD LUCK TO YOU: ken

Thanks for all the advice! I talked to the guy today, he has someone who he is showing it to this afternoon, if that falls through he is going to meet me tomorrow, I've got my fingers crossed that todays deal falls through! Lol

Ouch. Well good luck, but that other guy would be an idiot not to take it if it's in good condition.

I agree with the he who waits, I saw the ad, sent a messge, posted here, he already had one guy lined up, but ya, I wish I would have seen the ad sooner, anywas I'll know tomorrow. Thanks again for all the advice and comments! THR has always been a help!

Wish I would had bought a used one. My wife got me one for Christmas, a 336c, I'm happy to have it but its poorly finished, action is stiff, I have a lot of work to do on this Remlin. They're putting together junk now. Really sad to have a new gun that needs work. Customer service wouldn't help me with it. I can't blame my lady, she don't know guns like I do, hope you get that one.

Its really a shame that Remington and Freedom Group have taken one of the oldest and most resepected names in firarms and turned their reputation into... :cuss:

Are they good guns? There's one in every closet of every hunting family. You decide.
