Marlin Camp Carbine 9mm

Normally, I'm not that big of a fan of pistol caliber carbines, but I picked up a Camp Carbine in 9mm for a song. I couldn't resist.

I have read that +P is a no-no for this little carbine. However, I quick look at Wolff's website shows that they make a 16# spring for the Camp Carbines. Will the 16# spring allow normal 9mm ammo to function properly? Any chance that +P ammo could be used with the heavier spring weight?

I'm not a gunsmith, nor do I play on on TV.

Based on looking at mine for the same reason, I think if you replace the recoil buffer and go to either the 16# or 21# spring, you could get away with it. If you try it, watch the stock carefully for cracking and examine the internals for signs of battering. I'd suggest going with the 21# spring first, then shooting the upgraded gun for say, 10 rounds, then performing a field strip for checking. Then try for 25, then 50. If you're having extraction problems, check for signs of overpressure, then if you find none, go to the 16# spring and start over.

I will note that I have not tried this on mine. If you do, why don't you let us know how it works out?

I have a .45acp CC and love to play with it. You're biggest concern, other than the weak OEM recoil spring, will be the Hammer Strut and Hammer Strut Bridge. Why these were made out of pot metal is beyond me!

Upgrading to a 21# spring will allow for the pressures of a +P round. The 16# springs also work, but you might get a little more impulse energy transfered to the wrist of the stock. Of course, you could swap out the stock with a Choate folding stock. That would be the bee's knees!

I wouldn't worry about doing damage to the weapon. Buy some spare parts from Marlin and have fun shooting.

My stock Marlin 45 camp threw the empty shells about 30 feet or more.

It now has a folding stock and a #21 wolff spring. Much tamer. I took the wood stock off 'cause it was real purdy and I didn't want to crack it. Marlin is out of replacement stocks.

They do have the buffers (at times) and most of the other parts.

FYI, Blackjack Buffers also sells buffers for Camp Carbines.

I got a spare from them for my Camp 45.

For the cc 45, the 21# spring is TOTALLY the way to go.

As for the 9....hmmmm.....dunno. I'm thinking probably.

Actually, yeah. I don't know what the heck Marlin was thinking with their little 11# spring. I've had airsofts with harder springs than that.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll pick up both the 16 and 21# springs. I have decided I don't need to shoot +P through this carbine. I may just throw in a new buffer and the 16# spring and call it day after testing for function.

I took the new CC 9 down for cleaning last night and it is like new! This one has a fantastic bore. The buffer is in great shape but I think I'll replace it anyway.
