Marlin Custom Shop 39A Fancy starting price $3,195.00

Took a friend shooting the other day and he fell in love with my 39A but I wouldn't sell it to him. Did some on-line searching and all the 39A's I could find were out of his price range and mine. I got curious and went to Marlin's web site and the only 39A they offer is from the custom shop for a starting price of $3,195.00 MSRP. They list a whole lot of things like high end wood, high polish blued metal and custom work to the action but for that price who is going to buy one? Granted it is a classic style but wow, almost 32 hundred for a .22. I paid $500 for mine a couple years ago and felt like I paid a premium price for it. After looking at the custom rifle I feel like I got a bargain.
 
My late friend and horse riding pard had a 39a. It was the most accurate .22 I ever shot. We hunted squirrels and rabbits with .22s for many years. His widow kept it for vermin control on the farm.
I must have one some day.
You did the right thing to keep yours.
A home isn't complete without a good .22 rifle.

While I might not spend $3.2k on a custom 39A, I did spend $1400 on an production Annie 1712 bolt action and I did get a bargain...they are well over $2k now. That isn't a bad price for a something out of a custom shop, a .22lr bolt action from Cooper Firearms go for over $3k
 
Keep on the lookout for 39A's in the secondary market. Remember, there are no new ones in the pipeline as Marlin has discontinued that fine rifle.

I also have a Anschutz 1712 I shoot in small bore silhouette that I paid $1,200 for about 6 years ago. I have seen the prices new 1712s go for now, and yeah Wow, but the rifles are great shooters. It will be the last gun I sell and is my favorite rifle in my small collection. The 39a comes in second to the Anschutz and I bought it to shoot in the lever gun class of small bore silhouette. I owned a 39a with the cross bolt safety and had nothing but problems with it, it found a new owner. This one was made in 1982 and is accurate and reliable. It doesn't have that screwy hammer that makes the boing noise when fired.
 
With a closer look, I think you are right. If I am seeing correctly the I beam radius rods would make it a 9N or early 2N.
 
The 39A is still in limbo.
Marlin has enough leftover parts to do roughly a couple hundred through the Custom Shop.
Old stock, the model's still out of production.

IF Marlin does bring it back, it'll be at LEAST two years to get it going again.

I would! I looked at the custom shop guns at the NRA show and was instantly smitten. The finish work, case coloring and engraving were gorgeous.

Does it not make more sense to spend some money on a rimfire that you shoot 100 times more than a centerfire? It does to me.

I would be too paranoid to shoot something that pretty and expensive. The first scratch or ding in the stock would too much for me to contemplate.
 
If you do want one, better get it soon, before parts run out.

I'd be more afraid of spending that much on a gun and NOT using it. Denis will remind me that I promised to post pics but I treated myself to a Merkel 28ga several years ago and was elated to find that I had carried it enough to start wearing the finish off the fences. The enjoyment far outweighs the financial investment and honest wear just adds to the appeal. I feel privileged and blessed to be able to spend enough time with such a fine firearm that I impart wear on it.
 
I carry and hunt with my Krieghoff ALL the time...

It's been on extended trips by bush plane, canoe and about everything else, for weeks at a time, in tents ect... IF I can't use it I don't want it and I don't care what it cost or what it's worth!

My Krieghoff is worth a lot more than one of those custom shop 39's and yes it has a few dings ect. on it, but that's just honest wear!
