Maryland Shall Issue Update

Thanks to your previous efforts, the bill to reform the language with which we will be able to exercise our right to self defense has a total of 42 sponsors and co-sponsors. We are pleased to report that Delegate Dan Riley (D - District 34A - Cecil and Harford) has submitted the bill and it now registered as HB470.


HB470 would repeal the requirement for the State Police to find that a person has a good and substantial reason for the issuance of a permit to wear, carry or transport a handgun. This would effectively let Maryland join the ranks of the vast majority of states who recognize the right to self-defense.

Now is where the hard begins and it is imperative that we move quickly since the hearing for the bill is scheduled for February 24 at 1pm.

What we need you to do:
•Contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee who are not already co-sponsors of the bill and ask for a favorable report on HB470, Handgun Requirements - Repeal of Finding Requirement. Remind them that Maryland is in the distinct minority of states when it comes to its current policy on the issuance of permits. Remind them that this will not change in anyway the necessity for criminal background checks for either the permit process or the purchase of a firearm.
•It is particularly important that as many people from the districts of the Delegates below make contacts. Those communications are invaluable to educating these legislators from districts traditionally thought of as anti-self-defense.

I lived in Maryland for 57 years, and finally tired of the stupidity that allowed Baltimore City, Montgomery, and Prince George's Counties to run the state. Left in disgust, moved down here, and have been much happier. It wasn't just gun control, it was the attitude. FYI, I lived in Laurel and Columbia, and worked in Laurel. Is there even a single member of the current PG County Council left that hasn't been indicted?

I live in VA and Work in MD. Maryland gun laws are a joke. It is illegal to have a gun, unloaded and cased, locked in the trunk of your car unless you are going to or coming from a range or other such place.

I hope this passes but I seriously doubt it will. Maryland has a long way to go.

HB332 has a real chance of getting passed this year. There's only ONE obstacle; the chairman of the senate committee that first votes on the bill. This bill has passed the house twice unanimously already.

The problem here with the People's Republic of Maryland, is that the leftist staff that serve the leftist in DC mostly live HERE, and vote in local politics with the same philosophy! That coupled with the old-boy politics of the dead voting and stuffing the ballot box, and a state with so small an electoral college count that nobody cares on the national level, and you get what you get. When Paris Glendenning was elected Gov it was found that some districts in Baltimore had 100% voter turnout, with 100% votes for Democrats - so nobody moved out, all the folks that moved in voted dem, nobody was too sick to vote, and nobody died..., interesting. Of course that year all of the Dem governors that were up for re-election lost, except in Maryland, and the Lt Gov was a Kennedy. Add to that the Justice Dept was run by Janet Reno, so impossible to get any investigation conducted on voter fraud.

You can't transport a handgun in Maryland, period. There are exemptions granted in the law...., to and from a gunshop, to and from a range, to and from an informal shooting event, to and from private property where possession of the firearm is authorized. So if you stop at a restaurant while going to the range while transporting the unloaded firearm locked in the trunk, you are in violation.
