If you want more info on the MAS 36, then go to http://www.surplusrifleforum.com. They have a lot of info on all the French guns there. No more French guns will be imported into the US, they are being destroyed rather than sold on the international market as surplus, they are desirable on the milsurp scene in the 7.5 caliber. The rear sight was interchangeable from an armorers set, to change sight picture right or left. Same with the height of the front post . The MAS 49/56 was innovative to the point of being called the French M14 when it came out, mine shoots extremely well and is rock solid.

I have one that shows alot of surrender practice but the bore is perfect. Great shooter. Privi makes ammo in this caliber that is reloadable. MAS36s are running in the 400 buck range around here. I paid 41 bucks, delivered, a few years back when Numrich had them. chris3

Destroyed??? Wow, ok, but why???

Its part of a UN resolution, to get countries on board with the idea of destroying guns. Rather than allowing evil guns to float on the world market to be used again for evil purposes :banghead:, some countries have embraced the idea to their benefit (financial) to destroy their surplus arms (for the good of humanity). I read that article sometime ago so this is just an overview of it, you have to remember that the UN is full of the "progressive mindset" to rid the world of guns or at least vastly restrict them.
The last big dump of milsurps on the US was in the early 90,s, thats when a lot of the French stuff was brought over. No more now. I reload for mine also, the 49/56 takes a hotter load to work the heavy action, it runs well and never fails to attract attention when I take it out to the range.

The UN, go figure. Its a shame to lose such history to the destruction of ignorance. At least Pvri sells new 7.5 ammo thankfully. How hot do you set up your 49/56 loads?

I don't have access to my recipe notes at the moment (deployment). I use the Lee Reloading Book, IIRC a 150 FMJ bullet over 30gr of IMR4895. Was on the lower end of the scale but the action would not cycle correctly, one of the guys on that website explained about the heavy action and what the french load consisted of. I,m not over the limit, but at the upper end of it.
Very impressed with the 49/56, have to make a 5 round mag so I can use it for hunting season. At least for varmint season.:D
