I have a thing for the beauty of a mauser, basically i want to know what you guys think the best mauser for around 300 bucks is, im really looking for a gun that is a great shooter, without breaking the bank. thanks

I don't know about $300 but I just dropped $400 for a collector grade Mauser 98 from Mitchell's Mausers...Man, that thing is beautiful. I just picked it up from my FFL yesterday. What a piece of art that gun is. Manufactured in Germany in 1937...I can't wait to clean it up and get it out shooting.

I'd say some of the unissued variants of the M48 yugo or a really nice 1891 argentine would be your best bet in sub $300 as Swedish mausers nowadays tend to cost a good deal more than that for worthwhile examples.

Yes, I love Mausers of all types myself.
My "dream Mauser" is an early 20th century high-end sporting rifle like a Rigby or a Jeffery, but with my income I'll just have to be content with one of their more humble military cousins.

I also recommend the VZ-24's from AIM. The one I recieved was in very nice condition and it shoots good too. Id say its the best deal you could get on a mauser.

i'd watch the auctions and maybe you'll get lucky.
look for brno persians, as mr pale horse stated along with argie 1909's, peruvian 1909's, brazilian 1908's & uncut gew98's.
