Bombard the news media on pro-AWB Congresscritter Carolyn McCarthy abuse

Noooo, I don't think she's done a good enough job of covering her posterior on this. We can get phase II mileage out of the change.

So now she's counting the criminal as a victem? :banghead: This is still a dishonest exageration of the body count. The kid in UT was killed in the commision of a crime. Why try to misrepresent the body count of victems by including him? The guy in PA shot himself. Why include him in the body count? Obviously to inflate the numbers to mislead the public for her own selfish purposes.

We can use the changes as well to point out her fundamental mendacity and intentional twisting of the truth to further her political ambitions.

"To further her political ambitions she first more than doubles the number of murder victems to exagerate the tragedy. When caught at it she changes it, but she's so fundamentally dishonest and blinded by her own ambition that she counts the murderers to inflate the number of victems. This only shows that it wasn't an innocent mistake reporting the number of dead and injured as murder victems because she's changed the number and counts the murderers as victems too! Is there no end to the lies she's willing to tell or limits to how she abuses the tragic deaths of innocent people to further her "cause"?"

Perhaps throw screen shots up of before and after to document her slippery attempts to change the numbers to something more misleading.

Well at least she's got the number of deaths correct.

The SLC papers are listing the dead as five, plus the shooter.

I think it is a good idea to pummel the story some, but it really isn't fresh anymore. The dead addict stripper is still probably getting at least 25% of CNN's time... Sigh... Many of our carefully written notes may have been lost in a sea of tearful missives crafted by the denizens of trailer park daytime tv...

We've got a list of contacts. We just need a cause.

Now, I figure we can either do it as "pro-2nd amendment" types, and 99.9% of it will end up in the circular file. Or we can do it as "concerned citizens," not mention guns unless we _have_ to, and get our camel's nose under the tent flap...

It _is_ very possible to tilt some issues in our favor - look at groups like the Free Republic, for instance... We just need to do it in a semi-coordinated (everyone sending the same not does not work...) fashion...

Hso, we NEED an activism forum. All 2nd Amendment activism, all the time. Screw politics. We can make our OWN politics.

what I don't get is this: He could have killed 4 ppl in the same time with a bow & arrow...so why is it the "assault weapon" again that get's the blame? When do these politicians realize that it is the humans who do the killing, not the guns? Anyway, rant off!

IMHO, he was set up to do it. Not trained - just given the stuff, and pointed toward his 72 virgins. I mean, sheesh... I suck at combat shotgun, and I would have been more effective. But this is all beside the point...

Guys, let's analyze what we've accomplished - time for an after action report...

What went right: Did get a LOT of media contact information, got more than a few folks sending e-mails. I'm guessing they were numbered in the dozens per outlet tho, rather than in the hundreds or thousands. But it's all good... Even if they were caught by "liberal" gatekeepers, their cynicism quotient may have been increased. That's also a good thing.

What went wrong: Hard to keep folks on track. Need to have a standard operating procedure, and all participants _with the program._

Lessons learned: Focus, focus, focus, and get organized faster next time. Because time is both an friend and a foe.

Anyone wanna add anything?

1) Simple consistent message.

2) NOT "gun" or "freedom" rant-centric.

3) NOT about technology. We do not have time to educate an unwilling audience who likely has already 90% made up their minds.

4) FAST. If the media outlets get a mass influx of information about something, they may be more likely to act upon it than upon a trickled-in batch.

I'm not surprised by McCarthy's lies, what wlse should I expect? I'm much more disturbed by the media's failure to call the Salt lake shooting what it was: An act of terrorism.

They don't want to call it an act of terrorism because the people investigating the shooting haven't called it that yet.

Until then we shouldn't either.

As to next time -

We've got a lot of contact information here that is valuable.

I agree that focus is important when trying to have an impact on a media blitz. Diluting your message with unfocused letters means that no one pays attention. Short simple messages with one solid point.

Don't try to educate when trying to blitz the media. Present a simple ethical argument or make a simple factual statement that is supportable if someone looks. No point in pointing out that an assault rifle is completely different from an "assault rifle" as defined by an anti-firearms law or that a SMG is different from an AR15 or a 7.62X39 isn't a "high power round" or that an AR15 isn't a "sniper rifle" or etc. But, you get the idea.

Don't marginalize yourself by trouping out all the tired old 2A rhetoric. MSM already knows 2A folks are anti anti-gun, but if they get a bunch of main stream letters critical of an anti that focus on an issue they won't instantly toss the correspondence in the "nut bin".

Don't think it's been mentioned...

Imagine my surprise tonight while scrolling through the Fark.com links I missed during the week. Yup, somehow it made it to Fark. It's under Thursday's links. And wow, 959 comments!

You may not have heard of Fark but it is pretty big as far as internet communities go.

Good work.

Well, if you do not correspond with them, then they have no idea what you think.

This is not about you LIKING something. I could care less about that. This is about getting a message delivered to some people who just might be able to do something that we can't - rake her over some warmish coals.

Now get off your highly principled stubborn horse, and think about it for a moment.

Do you know who our worst enemy is? It isn't Obama. It isn't either Clinton.

It's US.

Sheesh... Half of y'all, if you were in a hotel, and the room next door was on fire, you'd just sit there and say "Well, it's not in here yet, so I'm not bothering. Besides, I paid for this room, so I'm going to use it!"

If we only try to convince people who already agree with us, we've lost.

And, for what it's worth, I'm a "liberal."

CNN is not going to hunt you down. Time Magazine isn't going to hunt you down. But if they get a juicy news story that benefits us, that could keep us from having to wake up one day to the news that we have to turn in our AR-15s, M-1s, SKS rifles, etc...

More lies on McCarthy website

McCarthy Website said:
In Philadelphia, a gunman opened fire on his colleagues using an AK-47 assault rifle he legally purchased. These dangerous weapons, which are intended to hit multiple targets in a short period of time, were allowed back on our streets when the federal ban on assault weapons expired in 2004. The deaths in Philadelphia could have been prevented if Congress had done its job of protecting the homeland and renewed the assault weapons ban.

On the other hand the Philly PD and Philidelphia Inquirer described the gunman who shot his buisness partners as having had 2 handguns. A Glock and an AK pistol.

McCarthy either just doesn't have competent help to tell her what's in the news or she doesn't care about the facts if they don't fit her purposes.
