Bombard the news media on pro-AWB Congresscritter Carolyn McCarthy abuse

Carter, it'd probably be better if she doesn't know about this until she gets a call asking her to comment on it.

Go hunt down news links - it's relatively easy. What's the big paper in SLC? What are the big stations? It's nasty that a New York politician is using Utah blood to advance her campaign...

Correia?

.

Done.

I emailed CNN, MSNCB and a number of the FOX NEWS addresses (news, O'Reilly, etc).

I stayed on the 'exploiting victims for political gain' issue.

Sent to all listed contacts.

Vampire Congresswoman - Why is a Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy claiming that 10 people were killed in the UT shooting instead of the 4 people murdered in this tragedy? Is she exploiting the deaths of innocents on her website to promote herself? Does she think there weren't enough people murdered? Why would she have to inflate the body count? I'm tired of politicians who use the blood of others to their own selfish ends. I'm amazed at someone so brazenly dishonest as to exagerate the number of deaths.

Here's the email for Rush Limbaugh (no I'm not a fan, but he's a loud voice against this loonie)

HELP!!

I"m working on an email to KSL in Salt Lake City to inform them of this congresswoman's inaccuracies, but I want to include the LEGAL DEFINITION of an assault rifle, and a source! can it be posted here and SOON??? I'm sure someone here can find it MUCH FASTER than I can, I'll post the email here as soon as i get done.

THANK YOU!!!

No, no, no.

You don't need to bore them with irrelevant terms that'll make their eyes glaze over and have them dismiss you as a "gun nut." The simple truth is that a lot of squirt guns look like assault rifles to members of the media, and the actual facts are not going to change their minds. DO NOT FIGHT THAT BATTLE.

This is a different battle.

Stick to the relevant point:

The congresswoman has manipulated/manufactured the data, in this case the number of innocent victims, to further her political agenda.

THAT'S IT. FOCUS, and keep it simple. Do not try to educate the folks about firearms. This isn't about firearms. It's about a criminal, his victims, and the congresswoman who is trying to use them.

Don't even bring up guns in the e-mail.

I am telling him the pertinent facts, while NOT stating i'm a gun owner, RKBA supporter. I"M PROVIDING SOURCES for my facts. I'm simplifying the definition, and citing a source that he can read for himself.

Keep it simple, and stick to the ONE fact. One thing at a time. Trust me. I do media.

Keep it short, keep it simple. They know there were four killed. She's listing 10 people, and she's doing it because she wants to push some half-baked alarmist legislation through, lubricating it with their blood. That's all they need to know. Too much info = no story.

Plus, I don't think there _is_ a "legal definition" of an assault rifle. An historical definition, maybe, but we DO NOT want to go there. Too involved for short attention spans. Besides, the SLC nutjob used a shotgun and a .38. That would only confuse the matter at hand....

Which is?

repeat after me: The congresswoman is using the deaths of these citizens of Utah to further her own political gains, and may actually be disappointed that more people were not killed.

I am directing him to the MISINFORMATION she's spreading. there are so many fallacies, misdirections, errors and lies in her article, I doubt any one person can find all of them. I am looking at the ones that hit MY eye. and pointing him to those, and correcting them. WITH sources, so I do not come off as a pissed off gun nut.

My conclusion states;
If we have congresspersons passing misinformation such as this to further their own agendas, then the government of the United States of America has taken a very very dark turn.
and that is a sad sad fact that needs no documentation.

if you'd like, i can post what I have so far to see if you can whittle it down.

Don't write a novel - keep it short, simple, and hit the one glaring high point.

We want this noticed and acted upon, not sent to the circular file.

They do not need to corroborate the 4 dead/10 dead thing. They already are likely intimately familiar with the story. They may do a bit more digging after they see the rest of that part of her web site. Then they'll do their OWN searching, and find their own answers. Which likely will agree with what you'd send them, but they'll feel a lot better about it, because they'll dig it themselves. If you send it to them, however, they may just dismiss it as "gun loon rantings."

The message:

The congresswoman is using the deaths of innocent victims to further her political agenda.

That's a "headline" kind of topic. One sentence. Short, sweet, to the point. Anything else gets confusing or gun-loon.

And how do you know the person who is reading your e-mail is a "him?" Odds are, your gatekeeper is going to be female. Which is all the more reason not to get into defining exactly what sort of boomstick someone in another part of the country used.

Simple messages get understood.

The on-air person was male, but I was simply going to address it to the name of the show. Which now is a moot point since the show has ended.

The actual number was was 5 dead, not counting the shooter, 5 hospitalized, and an unknown number treated and released.

You did state you are in the media, so I do put stock in that you say short is sweet. So what if I state that she's using the numbers of victims is just flat wrong and well documented and ALSO state that I noticed several other errors and tell them to contact me if they want to know.

BTW, THANKS for trying to keep this calm and effective, and I hope I didn't come across as being cranky with you, but I would have liked to get this info to the radio show before it ended. The station in question is the largest news radio station in a 7-state area, and the show I wanted to mail gets a lot of listeners.

Skinnyguy, scroll back and look at the note that Rocco posted... Very nice. Object is to lead them to water, so that hopefully they may drink. But if you force it upon them, they're gonna buck away from it.

Guys, this is my 5,000th post.

I've got a BA in public relations.

I've got experience in Army public affairs and the civilian media.

I've been involved in pro-firearms activism for over two decades. Maybe three. I'm feeling old...

The people who "gatekeep" the news are tired, stressed, overworked, and underappreciated. They have to grab a possible story, scan it for a few seconds, and decide if it is worth hassling with. Then it's a few more seconds, or minutes if they've got the time, and it's off to either the guys in the typesetting room, or the teleprompter.

If you're pushing something, and you want to make the news, it's gotta have a good hook to it, and it's gotta be something they can grab and go with.

I do appreciate your input, Bogie. What you are doing is GOOD, and you have experience in the very medium we are trying to use. I've done a copy/paste of Rocco's post, corrected some things that were uncomfortable to my eyes without changing the size or intent of the mail.

I hope they put some people on the webpage that KNOW what to look for and pick it apart. But as you say, we have to bring the BLARING fallacies to light, and hope they can take it further.

Again, I thank you for the heads up on the congresspersons lying and urging the many people here to do something, and not roll over and die.

Don't give it up!!!!

Well, I'm gonna go to sleep.

Pick _a_ glaring fallacy, and hammer it. Too much info goes in the trash.

Don't get hung up on what some folks will see as minor technicalities, and focus on the issue at hand. Yeah, McCarthy is harping on the AK-type rifle that the guy in PA used. But that isn't what WE are talking about.

What WE are disturbed about is her inflating the number of victims for her own political gain.

That's a headline.

Trying to define a rifle isn't a headline.

Bogie's idea is excellent!

Don't get hung up on all the standard complaints the media hears from gun owners all the time. Don't complain about the definition of an assault weapon. Don't complain about registration/records/background checks.

Hammer the fact that she's lying about the number of deaths to promote herself. Bathing in the blood of others to promote her cause is bad enough, but making up body count because she considers the public to be too stupid to know the facts is news.

Couple of other people/places to contact...

Micheal Savage

Matt Drudge (The Drudge Report.com, IIRC

We need to concentrate on the mainstream media and not folks like Savage. If the Atlanta, NY, Chicago and LA papers as well as CNN and Fox and MSNBC all have letters/tips on the Vampire Congresscritter the AP and UPI may pick it up as news. If they do the broadcast news folks may and then she'll have some explaining to do.

Right wing media won't do it.

If it's not a mistake, it's easy enough to pass it off as one. Someone who updates her website saw "10 people killed or wounded" and then made a mistake of saying "more than 10 killed" on the site. By all means, let's try, but don't expect this to be a story.

Regardless, she's at the forefront of any firearms ban, and this needs to make the news. Stick with a simple message, and hammer it.

There's a big difference between five victims, and the shooter, and "killing more than 10 victims." If _she_ didn't do it, her staff did, probably with her encouragement and consent.

We all bitch about politicians lying. Call 'em out on it. In public. If 10% of THR members (and this means YOU reading this right now...) e-mail a major news source, this can become mail... Or maybe we need more. What's the e-mail for the republicans? Or her likely opponent?
