After coming home from college and walking into Meijers for the first tims since August, I was shocked. They are now selling gun! Real guns, too, Remington shotguns, Winchester lever actions, .22's... When did this happen? Why? I am simply astounded. I remember many years back they had blackpowder guns, but they even discontinued them until now. So what gives?

That's interesting. I'm going to have to pay attention the next time I'm in the one by me.

I noticed that a few weeks ago. They stopped selling all but BP & bb guns in the mid to late eighties.
I've been meaning to stop & see if they have a spec order catalog a'la Wally World.

After the Meijer family has stepped away from the controls it has been run by a bunch of bean counters with predictable results.

Remember when their moto was "One Stop Shopping" and you could buy pretty much anything from groceries to plumbing supplies to guns to car parts to medicines. Then they started to "focus" on the higher turn over items and phase out the low turn over items. (How long has it been since you could buy a pipe nipple or a rifle there?) When Wal-Mart moved into Jackson this summer they did over $20K in sporting goods the first day. A few weeks later Buckmasters was there. At the same time meijers is looking like a ghost town. The Friday after Thanksgiving looked like any other day, every other store in town was packed.

Maybe, just maybe, the current management is begining to realize that old Fred knew what he was doing when he sold a little bit of everything. I don't know how many times I went in at 2:30 in the morning to get some nails or boards and came out with $50 of other stuff that happened to get in my way while I was there. Even things that you personally might not like, the customer might. And the custome is the one who determines cash flow.

PS, The Jackson store has been selling a few guns for a year or so now.
