--:D

I'm another that registered a complaint. Don't mind back-orders but sure do mind the extra shipping cost involved. I have marketed fly fishing/tying merchandise for over 12 years and never had to wait over a couple weeks, except over-sea orders take 3 to 4 weeks maximum. They have been out of many items, such as Lee C-309 molds and specific lube/size dies, for at least 5 months, maybe longer. They are likely waiting for enough back-orders to build up rather than have to stock them.

I spent over $700.00 in the last few weeks on reloading that would have been Midway business. Most went to Cabelas instead.

They may be doing more business lately but their back-order policy is loosing them a lot too.

Wish I knew of another source for reloading. Ed.

I've been wanting to order some reloading components from midway but half the stuff on my shopping list, including really basic stuff is backordered. If it was like brownells and backorder shipping was free I would have ordered already.

I generally cancel any back order items at Midway. I like the company, their prices and service, but the double shipping charge for back ordered items irks the heck out of me.

At the other extreme is Sportsman's guide, I often get five separate packages from one order for a $19.99 shipping and handling charge (which is $9.99 after I use one of their $10 off coupons that I get in the Email every week).

Take a dolly and go to a gun show. Save on all that S&H and the time it takes to acquire.
And let the sales tax eat up more than the shipping would ever cost.

Depends on what you buy and what your sales tax and shipping are. My last bullets from Powder Valley was something like $150 for 2000 with $12 USPS flat rate shipping. With our 8% sales tax, I'm at break even.

I dunno where you guys are getting the high shipping charges from, but I just ordered almost $70 worth of stuff and paid $3.33 for shipping and it go to me in 3 days.

I haven't had less than twice that amount for shipping anything from any company in over a year or so. My fishing retail business charges $7.95 and we're almost loosing money on a lot of orders. I can understand why the high cost of shipping. Packing and postage both cost more than $3.33, especially when you hire someone to pack, label, and send a package. I know I paid much much more on all my Midway shipments. Must have been a special shipping discount arrangement.

In my business, I list something for sale, and don't have it in stock, I do not charge extra shipping on the back-ordered item. Sure, it may cost me a little but it keeps me ordering to make sure I have enough in stock. If I made money on back-orders, as Midway is doing, I wouldn't worry about back-orders. Not only that, it takes only a few days to receive orders from suppliers, a week or two at most for international shipments, and Midway has been out of stock for over 6 months. Seems they wait until they get enough back-orders to make oit profitable. To me, that is bad business and unfair to customers. But when you are the biggest, and not worried about customers, then you don't really care. I buy what I can elsewhere now, even if I pay a little more. Ed.

Frustration with Midway USA

Seems like when something on my wish list finally comes in, something else goes on backorder. Obviously, I don't want to pay multiple shipping charges. Ughh....

Eaten Alive on Backorder Shipping Fees

Yep, I used to buy LOTS of stuff from Midway. Sure, they may be making record sales, but I'll betcha their freight carriers love 'em, too.

+1 to all you guys who got hot over being burned by a second shipping charge or that fifty cent item that you decided to add to your order at the last minute.

I don't buy hardly anything from Midway anymore for that reason. I used to check before I emailed in orders, just to make sure items were in stock, and darned if I didn't get gouged by items going OUT OF STOCK after I hit the "enter" key. Oh, yeah, that will be another 8 bucks.... :cuss:

They still send me a nice catalog, though, that I use for reference.

I buy most of my reloading stuff from Graf's, haven't bought anything from Midway since they started charging shipping.

Most of the time I make my shopping list, and try to make 2nd and 3rd choices because I know they will be outta stuff.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I have given a couple of orders to Lock, Stock & Barrel because they had my items in stock and Midway did not. On one order, LS&B had a cheaper price for identical item.

Merged Threads

Please note that two treads with near-identical content have been merged.

Please, when you want to start something of this sort, at least scan back for a couple of weeks to see if someone's done the same thing.

Thanks
Johnny

Had a bad experience with Wideners over this same stuff this month. Will give more details when I finally get them on the phone this morning.

Edited:

Backordered items listed as in stock on website, took five days to process order (granted, some of that was the weekend, but it sure wasn't done first thing Monday morning), was going to get dinged on a second set of shipping charges, no communication re backordered item via email, or when I spoke to the person on the phone after it was processed, and before it was shipped, the person on the phone didn't even know how to read their OWN INVOICES, the overall tone in the calls was either making excuses or just being downright rude, and in three phone calls, I never once heard the word sorry, even after I said I'd like an apology. I swear, I've had better customer service in third world/communist countries, and have never had a problem like this with any other vendor in this industry. And I still don't have the dies I need two weeks later. To their credit they refunded part of the shipping charge, but it was like a trip to the dentist (pulling teeth) to get that, and no apology. I've rarely, if ever, seen an American company in the reloading supply industry that showed such obvious contempt for their customers.

Midway has never given me any trouble, though their prices aren't as cheap as some. Grafs has been fantastic except that things are frequently out of stock and they sell our info to spammers/bulk mailers. Hell, even Powder Valley was faster on their shipment for our group buy (over 200 lbs of hazmat goodnes, with discounts thrown in).
