I'm interested in the Midway Competition Range Bag.

I've searched other THR threads and googled the bag, which has answered most of the things I wanted to know. However, I still have this question. Does the bag have a solid enough bottom that it will retain it's shape and not sag like a swayback horse when it carries several handguns and 7 or 8 boxes of ammo for them, along with the other usual range accoutrements.

With the reviews that it is getting, I would say that for the price it will be hard to beat. And I would bet that it will hold up to what you are asking of it. But that is not a guarantee as I have no experience with it.

I certainly don't want to talk you out of something your set on, but the best range bag I've found is a Samsonite Overnight Laptop rolling bag with an extendable handle.

I have that same Midway bag, and IMO, it'll ruin YOU before you can ruin IT! That sucker can get mighty heavy, so beware. But it's a helluva bag for the price, and the smaller, extra bag is a nice feature. Plus the two pistol pouches. Get one, you'll love it.

My two handguns, several boxes of ammo and assorted tools and accessories have caused no noticeable bending of the bag.

This is an excellent bag. I've had one for months and use it often. It is large, full of pockets and compartments suited to the most avid shooter and is rugged, easy to use and very well made.

It has a small draw-string bag for brass, very handy. Since it is a large bag it is easy to jam full of heavy items (I've loaded mine up with several heavy handguns and many boxes of ammo + tools + targets + eye/ear + tape, etc.) and make it difficult to haul from the back bedroom to the truck in the garage without knocking over everything along the way.

It holds up perfectly and is a GREAT range bag. I highly recommend it.

Dan

I've had mine loaded to the point where it was hard to carry, and it still held its shape beautifully.

I've put 5 handguns and 500 rounds of ammo, plus eyes, ears, staplegun, etc in mine and it still retains its shape.

You can load it heavier than what you'd want to walk with for 50 yards and it'll shrug it off and ask for more.

I've had mine for several years now and love it! It's been so loaded down you can barely lift it but it holds together. If you're in the market for a range bag go for it. You won't be sorry.

I have the Midway bag and addressed the "sagging" issue with a quarter inch plywood "floor" placed in the bottom. Put generous radii on the corners to prevent poking holes through the fabric and painted the floor flat black.
Works fine, but the bag is so darn big that fully loaded with typical gun stuff, it's a chore to carry. Doesn't sag though.

All of the Midway range bags are best bang for the buck. I don't understand how they can sell the big one for $39, it's worth twice that.

We ought to have a contest to see who can put the most stuff in the bag... and still lift it.:D

I have the smaller one as well as the larger. For my purposes, the smaller one
is plenty big enough 99% of the time. Two pistols in rugs, ammo, mags, targets, ears clipped to the outside D-ring and I'm set to go.

Buy it I got one two or three years ago you can load it up and it will keep it's shape will worth 2x what midway sells it for.

I have bought 3 more, all for gifts everyone I gave them to love it as much as I do

regardless of price, this is one of the best range bags out there imo. the fact that it is only forty bucks is just a huge bonus! i assure you that you can load a LOT more weight in that thing than you will be willing to carry to the car.

Prior to posting this thread, I'd read that it was easy to load the bag with so much that it would be tough to carry. That made me think about the compact bag. However, if I only want to take a few things, my current unit will work. I have an old small suitcase that I spray painted black, installed dividers into, and lined with pool table felt that I've been using since the 70s.

I'm interested in the big bag for when I go shooting at a friend's property. This way I can carry the guns and ammo, along with a couple of desired light, but bulky, additional items. I take along a large tarp to make recovery of my brass less of a chore and additional hearing protectors in the hope that my wife will eventually have an interest in learning to shoot.

That big Midway bag has a smaller, "stand-alone" bag with it's own carry handles that can be pulled out and toted from place to place. It's nice to take the big bag into the clubhouse when I arrive at a match, then pull out the smaller bag with only the necessities to take from stage to stage in an IDPA match.

It's got to be about the best designed shooting bag I've come across. Ever.

I have owned a small Midway bag for years and it is a great product. As a RSO at a local range I see people come in carrying everything. Most of those that own the large Midway bag appear to be "over suit-cased" I think it would make a lot more sense to get two small bags. It just makes for an easier carry. I personally have a smaller bag that holds ear protection, ammo, empty bags for brass, and a few tools. The Midway bag contains guns and a few essentials.
